2003 Hyundai Coupe 2.7 V6

Summary:

Not a high roller, but good for the money

Faults:

Yes, a bit sluggish in comparison to my Z3 2.8, the engine and build quality are not as good, but second hand for 5k at 28000 miles for the 2003 2.7 V6 model is a steal (as long as you check the brakes & engine before you buy, as they can be ragged by boisterous drivers).

General Comments:

You get a lot of spec for the money, & they look good.

If you want better, the Boxster or Z3 is good value, but the running costs are a lot more. It all comes down to 'you get what you pay for'.

I recently test drove a 2004 GTi, which was very quick, lovely car 49k, but was it £6500 nicer than the coupe?

Similar priced hot hatches are hard to find for 5k unless they are stolen or damaged, and their price reflects their popularity, NOT their performance. The coupe is a good buy, but not from new.

2003 Hyundai Coupe FX 1.5

Summary:

Love it - so glad I purchased it!

Faults:

Nothing, to date.

General Comments:

I have just traded my Puma for a coupe, after much deliberation and a sad parting.

What a great decision I have made; I love the coupe - from the comfortable seats to the smooth gear change to the very beautiful exterior styling.

I know it's tight for rear passengers and the headroom is not what it might be in a family car, but this is why I love it; it's not a family car!

2003 Hyundai Coupe 2.7 V6

Summary:

Waste of money, a complete dog of a sportscar

Faults:

Where do I start? The car has had a catalogue of errors.

Windscreen wash-wipe tank leaks, within hours of filling washer fluid it's empty again.

Dashboard lights intermittently fail.

Speedometer badly inaccurate.

Had a major tyre blowout despite the tires only being about 1/3 of the way through their expected life.

Electric Windows Stick.

Gearbox makes crunching and whirring noise and mechanics can't work out why.

V6 noisier than it should be, suspected fuel pump leak.

General Comments:

First of all do not be fooled into thinking that you are buying a fast car. Despite it's huge 2.7 V6 engine it only produces a highly inefficient 165bhp and to get that you really have to thrash it's pathetic engine.

It's not much quicker than my Saxo VTS, with a less-than-average top speed of 133mph. What a terrible waste of money.

I can't get in touch with the main dealership half the time with the problems listed above and all the mechanics I've spoken to say the Coupe is a good-looking deathtrap.

It's unreliable, it's not very fast, and it DRINKS FUEL. I can swear to you that I have been overtaken on the motorway by boy racers in hot hatches.

The leather seats are uncomfortable and the dashboard switches confusing and unclear. The stupid roof shape makes it impossible to sit adults in the back.

You'd think given a large V6 and a reasonably light bodyshell, a regularly serviced Coupe like mine would be a fast reliable car. Unfortunately it's neither, I hate this car and I'm stuck with it.

You are missing the Alpine Supercharger.

That will get you up to near 300HP, M3 beating performance.

Almost all boy racer hatches are heavily modified :)

About the other problems; yours may be a bit of a lemon.

Mine is 2.0, no issues.

Then again, BMW repairs range in the thousands of dollars...

I'm not sure why people buy Hyundais? Yes, they're cheap, but you pay through the nose in the long term.

Korean cars are horrid (I should know, I used to work for a dealer).

Stick with Japanese, especially for so-called sports cars.

I'd put money on that the Chinese will beat Korea in the car market within the next 6 years; they know what quality control and reliability is already.
