Summary:

Reliable, fast and good to drive

Faults:

Best of all worlds. Super reliable, fun to drive, good looks, good on fuel, completely rust free, only car I have ever had that passed its MOT first time!

1995 Hyundai Scoupe M.V.T.I. SE 1.5 turbo petrol

Summary:

An absolute dream!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

Simply the best performing, best looking, best handling car I have ever owned!

Reliability has been beyond reproach and the fuel consumption has never fallen below 36 m.p.g. despite always being driven very hard.

It is capable of 125 m.p.h. on half throttle and accelerates from 0-60 in just over 8 seconds!

1993 Hyundai Scoupe MVTi 1.5 turbo petrol

Faults:

Wiring loom and turbo both needed replacing before the car was 18 months old! The alarm failed, the HT leads melted twice, mysterious rattles from beneath the bonnet, terrible misfires in damp conditions & it was prone to aquaplaning no matter what tyres were used.

General Comments:

This car and I have long since parted company, it was a love/hate relationship, when it was running OK it was a cracker with phenomenal mid range acceleration and good looks to boot. Alas, it only ran OK 70% of the time, shame really.

1995 Hyundai Scoupe SE 1.5i petrol

Faults:

Windscreen relaced due to water penetration.

Interior air vents replaced due to rattles.

Bonnet resprayed due to small paint blisters.

Suspension springs replaced due to broken spring.

General Comments:

I have had the car for a year having bought it secondhand with 24,000 miles. All the above problems were sorted under manufacturer 3 yr warranty except suspension which gave out six months after expiry of warranty. This has to be one of the most fun cars I have ever driven and would heartily recommend taking one for a spin. I shall be holding on to this one for a good few years to come.

p.s. This model comes with lowered suspension which makes handling a breeze but is bloody expensive to fix if it goes wrong.

1994 Hyundai Scoupe GT-i Turbo 1.5 Turbo MPFI petrol

Faults:

Release for the hatch didn't work, fixed under warranty. Mirror corrosion (under warranty).

General Comments:

Great performance, it out raced alot more powerful cars although it was only 115bhp, but since it was so light it was like a rocket, 0-60 in 8 secs. It beat the Nissan Sunny Gti (145bhp), and other cars that were up to 180 bhp. A little too much road noise, but after all it is really just a toy (a pretty cheap one too!!) and you can upgrade it to 165bhp, and the 0-60 drops to 5.9 secs with a computer chip.

Hi, I'm the owner of a Hyundai Scoupe too. I want to know how could you improve the car to 165 bhp. Email me... drinconv@yahoo.com

Hi I read your article and was wondering how you got the car up to 165hp. On my 1993 Hyundai Scoupe Turbo I changed the intake (HKS filter) and I changed the exhaust (2.5" catback with a Flowmaster muffler), that change gave me a little more hp. But I want to know how to make it faster. Please email me at Bori72@aol.com
