1991 Jaguar XJ40 3.2
Faults:
ABS light came on (traced to a bad battery).
Central locking faults (traced to wiring loom into door).
Exhaust valve burned out.
Front wheel bearings (must be adjusted for end float, not by feel).
Crank shaft sensor.
Rear suspension A frame bushes.
Vibrations/whining from the rear suspension at 50 and 70 mph.
General Comments:
A good car to buy about 3 to 5 years old when depreciation has bottomed out. The electrics are complicated, but I would say fairly reliable, but from talking to other drivers every car is different!
Impressed my friends no end when I got it (enough said).
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I recently bought a '91 XJ40 3.2 manual transmission with 72700 Mls in a perfect condition. Bought from an official dealership (with guarantee and full service before delivery) I now own a perfect car to DRIVE. Since this car is just for the fun of driving a car like this in my free time, I pay less attention to the costs and more to performance, reliability and comfort. And I must say I am impressed. For a car this size it's performance is better then I expected. Therefore I do not totally agree with the marks given. I would say 8/10 for performance and 9/10 for comfort. Of course it is not as fast as a M3 3.2 but you can still outrun most "competitors" if you want to. The only problem I had so far is the alarm system. But the dealer will replace this without sending the bill...
