2004 Kia Sedona LX 2.9CRDi

Summary:

Fantastic value for money, but though economical, is this really a 2.9 engine?

Faults:

Rattling cup holder when drinks are inside.

Interior light stays on for about 10 minutes after doors are all locked.

General Comments:

The car is really a mixture of good and bad.

Bad:

1.) Ergonomics are very poor, especially the rear wiper switch

2.) Gear box is heavy and inprecise

3.) steering is a little vague

4.) interior plastics lack quality

5.) A little dated in some respects- i.e. no digital milometer, side airbags, alarm, remote locking or intermittent rear wash wipe.

6.) feels more like a 2.2 litre diesel than a 2.9.

Good:

1.) Superbly comfortable and smooth ride

2.) Looks modern if a little bland

3.) Excellent value for money

4.) the kind of car you could motorway drive all over the world in and feel refreshed, with a good ride and little noise over bad tarmac

5.) Roomy, versatile and airy inside

6.) Indicators are on the right- ideal for right handed people.

Overall this car is recommended and is one of the better Kia's on the market.

Agree. This 2.9L Mercedes derived diesel is incredible slow. It is Mercedes technology from the 80ies that those crafty Germans have managed to shift to the Koreans ;-), but at the same time it is probably very durable being an old MB diesel. Heard about those MB 300TD from the 80ies with 500.000 miles on the clock? It is also fitted so the Ssang Yong 4X4, and one time I had the "pleasure" of being a passenger in one. It struggled to maintain 50mph on steep uphills. Most 2.0L turbo diesels have much more pep than this one. I even think a 1.6L TD would be faster. I've even read a review once on the 2.9L Ssang Yong that concluded that this is a slow one.
