1993 Mazda MX6 GT 2.0 V6 24 valve

Summary:

Ahead of its time

Faults:

Antenna mast broke after 4 years; replaced.

Spark plug cables need to be replaced every 30,000 Kms, as they tend to short and cause misfiring.

Power window switches broke a couple times, and the fix would be to have it backed via screws with a metal plate.

Self adjusting lifters tend to need replacing after 50,000 miles.

Velocity joint boot rubbers replacement every 50,000 miles.

General Comments:

This is one of the best cars that Mazda has ever produced; had it from new, and never had any major problems, apart from those stated here.

Both in design, which is timeless, and performance, the car has been the best car that I have ever owned (please note that I own a Range Rover, Jaguar and Mercedes, and still prefer driving my MX6).

The handling in this car is by far the best. Still gets stares wherever I go. Wish that Mazda would start production of this Sporty Coupe again; I will be the first to order one. PLEASE MAZDA, relaunch this car.

To those of you who are complaining, perhaps the car that you bought has been abused; this is the only explanation.

Feature wise this car still to this day carries standard equipment that many new cars today don't. Definitely a great buy.

1992 Mazda MX6 J-Spec 2.5i V6 24v

Summary:

Cheap sophisticated and fun

Faults:

So far nothing. Occasional 4WS fault, but that has only happened three times.

General Comments:

Inside the seats feel too small and uncomfortable like they are made for small japanese, it's a J-Spec so that is true.

This is 200 BHP J-Spec, but feels only moderatly fast.

Very thirsty returns only 20mpg.

Smooth drive.

Excellent build quality.

1993 Mazda MX6 2,5GT 2.5 V6 petrol

Summary:

The best car I have ever owned

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

A truly sensational car and definitely the best I have ever owned.

The MX6 was a fast car - acceleration from rest was superb and easily embarrassed a couple of lads in a tuned Renault 5 GT turbo, much to their annoyance!! The engine was smooth, quiet, powerful and flexible - it would pick up happily from 20mph in 5th gear and yet I reached the rev limiter on the first week I owned it and only realised because the acceleration stopped coming!!

It also gave a steady 26-28mpg no matter how hard or gently I drove it.

Handling was superb - drive fast into a corner, lift off and the back end would slip out nicely and could be opposite locked easily round the rest of the bend (not that I condone this sort of hooligan behaviour on public roads!!).

The car was well equipped, comfortable, stylish and I loved it.

The only slight downsides I can think of were, firstly, road noise was higher than I was used to in my previous Senator, but not intrusive and less than in a Toyota Celica I test drove.

Secondly, it was also quite short-geared. This made for superb acceleration in any gear from any speed, but a 6th gear would have been nice for motorway cruising, and the engine would easily have coped with it.

Finally - main dealers! The one I used was polite, courteous and made me feel like a very special person. I was kept well-informed and the car came back gleaming, but, boy, do they charge for it!!

A full 72000 mile service with no work required was 340UKP and this needs carrying out every 6000 miles so I would recommend finding an independent specialist.

So, why did I only keep it 9 months? Simple - I proposed to the girlfriend and it had to go to help pay for the wedding and honeymoon. I haven't ever let her forget this, I have her blessing to buy another one and it WILL be happening!!!
