1993 Mazda Xedos 6 2.0 V6
Summary:
The love of my life!!
Faults:
Nothing much really beyond wear and tear. The brake calipers needed rebuilding because the seals had gone; new ones were expensive, but found a rebuild kit online and did it myself.
It blew a couple of plugs leads after an energetic blast one day chasing a rally around the coast.
It had a strange habit of idling high occasionally when warm. It was more of a problem in the winter, and after several computer plugins that gave different answers, it was discovered it was related to the heater temp switch in the cabin. When turned up to the last (winter) it would send an electrical spike. A new controller cured it.
General Comments:
Although I have owned much faster cars since, it is by far the Xedos that stays with me. It was proper fast, handled beautifully and looked absolutely stunning. She was wine with cream leather, quite possibly the best combination, and the only reason I sold her is because I had to buy a 7 seater. The day it was sold, the local boy racer group went and called to the house, not believing that it was gone. It is by far the most recounted car by family and friends when stories are told.
It was everything you could ever want in a car. Fast, reliable, comfortable, safe, looked stunning, ladies loved it.
Whether on a back road or motorway, you could chug along at license losing/prison speeds in absolute comfort and safety.
The fuel economy was good for what it was and how it was driven. Parts where always available, if a little expensive if you went main dealer route, but it's rare it needed anything outside general servicing.
If I get the chance, I will own another one again!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I owned a Xedos6 2.0 from 1994 through to 2002.
2000 miles one year old when purchased, 155,000 miles when I finished.
Car was generally excellent with no serious problems during my ownership, apart from the well-known ones;
1. Seizing rear brake calipers. Finally cured by drilling a small hole into the caliper in order to lubricate the handbrake mechanism at each service.
2. Juddering driver side window - never really solved.
3. Very slight shimmy during accelerating at slow speeds - never solved in spite of attention to suspension, wheel balancing etc..
4. Tappet noise on start up.
5. ECU glitch if engine started from cold, run for a few seconds and then stopped. Re-starting an hour later could be tricky.
Other than this, everything wonderful - superb quality, distinctive, good performance for its time.
