2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C180 AMG Sport Blue Efficiency 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Last of the best

Faults:

Wouldn't call it faultless as it is over ten years old now. But in my ownership I bought this car used, I have mostly done services and replaced wear and tear parts (brakes, tyres, etc).

Lately the suspension has developed a creaking noise from the rear. Will have it looked at soon.

Some signs of a small oil leak, but not serious at all, never need to top up.

Cosmetically the car is near perfect for over a decade old, but there are some marks on it now, but no rust anywhere. I keep it clean and garaged.

General Comments:

Last of the great C-Class Mercedes in my opinion. After 2015 things got too electronic and complex. But this 2013 saloon car feels mechanical, in a good way. Expensive to buy and run compared to similar cars - but worth it, the car exudes quality.

Quite good to drive for a lower model in the range. C180 in this car has a 1.6 petrol engine mated to an auto box. No, it isn't a fast car by any means, but it is still economical and smooth, and certainly more refined than the diesels, and still cheaper to run than the bigger petrol engines.

AMG Sport is the spec to have - very nice interior and exterior styling touches. The car is nice to look at in white. Inside is black leather and all electrics.

Very smooth and quiet on the move. Comfortable, luxurious.

What more can I say, I love it and hope to have it a long time! Not interested in anything Mercedes make nowadays.

2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C180 SE Executive 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Best compact exec saloon

Faults:

I have only had it for a year and had no problems. Brake pads were done at last service, that is all so far.

General Comments:

Always wanted one of these, the C-Class is a very classy car; having test driven the BMW 3 series and Audi A4 from the same time period, those were nice cars but I settled upon the Mercedes as my favorite.

C180 nameplate so I thought it would have a 1.8 engine like in older models - as it turns out it is a 1.6. But with a decent 154 bhp it never feels slow, and you can average mid 40's mpg, not bad. Preferred over the diesels long term as they can be expensive to repair. Tax is also reasonable on this car, though insurance is a little expensive. I am also under no illusion that these are expensive cars to fix in any specification if something goes wrong, but hopefully the fact I have bought a full history low mileage petrol car and look after it, there will be no major issues.

For a 9 year old car it still feels very modern, yet retains that classic Mercedes feel. I actually do not mind the foot operated parking brake, it is better than the electronic buttons on more modern cars. Comfort is top notch and the car is well equipped. Auto-box is smooth. Cabin is spacious but it is no S-Class - 6 footers may find the rear seats cramped on long journeys.

Mine is grey, probably the dullest color, but almost every car these days is a shade of silver/grey/beige, certainly cars in the executive range. Buying used I had no choice, I would have chosen black or dark blue if it was up to me. Alloy wheels are very nice however, and the black leather interior is stunning.

In short if you are after a smart executive car, check out any C-Class. Do not buy without full history however, these cars need looking after to avoid costly bills.

They are much more reliable than 2001 - 2006 built cars; the C Class is finally back to what a traditional Mercedes should be.
