2001 Mercedes-Benz Vito CDI 2.1 diesel

Summary:

I have decided to cut my losses and dispose of the van in favour of another manufacturer

Faults:

Heater is next to useless.

Engine runs too cold.

Door handles broken, interior and exterior.

Engine loses power for no apparent reason, and seems to fix itself??

Central locking packed up.

Heater controls broken.

Window winders broken.

Poor quality upholstery.

Door locks very stiff, resulting in broken key.

General Comments:

Disappointingly poor effort from Mercedes Benz.

Everything seems to go wrong at once, and is just too expensive to maintain overall.

The Vito drives well and handles responsively for the most part, but has proved to be not reliable.

2001 Mercedes-Benz Vito 2.2 CDI diesel

Summary:

A lick of paint should sort her out

Faults:

Not a lot really.

I've got slight play in the OS bottom ball joint.

OS inner CV boot split.

Wear in drivers seat.

Usual rust.

General Comments:

Considering mileage of my Vito, I'm very impressed that it's done nearly 200000 miles and still goes like a rocket.

I recently went on a camping trip in the Vito with some friends. One had a 2001 Transit and one a 98 Galaxy, and they both struggled to keep up, especially on the hills.

Overall I'm very impressed with my purchase; sailed through its MOT last year. Not bad considering I only paid £800 for the van.

2001 Mercedes-Benz Vito 110 CDi 2.2

Faults:

Brake disks replaced. auto locking solenoid replaced. respray.

General Comments:

An excellent light van for the budget. better than a transit. not that nippy, but boy is it economical on diesel. no major problems. a little noisy. overall I thought well built. cosmetic body work was not good for age. everything else was OK. id recommend them. I would buy another.

You can make some of the people happy all the time or all the people happy some of the time. And Vito's keep the dealers happy.

I have read the comments on a lot of sits and there are a lot of people who think they are rubbish? I have one that has done over 260,000 and it smokes a bit when you put your foot down but starts first time... one occasion I had to use easy start after I cleaned the injectors and replaced the 4x 96p each washers to stop the leak of smoke and fuel. Also mine is the travel liner 9 seat-er so pulls a lot of weight. I guess its how you look after it!?

2001 Mercedes-Benz Vito 113 petrol

Summary:

Absolute rubbish, never a good word to say about Mercedes again!

Faults:

Gear box has failed.

Brakes have failed.

Petrol tank problems.

General Comments:

I find it very poor and hard to believe, that a van with 35,000 miles on the clock has to be written off due to a failed gear box which started to fail at about 15,000 miles. Also to speak to Mercedes and to be told that they don't care, and that it is your problem is unbelievable, they are supposed to be the best, don't think so!

Yes that's why that Vito van thing isn't sold in the USA. I never even heard of that vehicle before until now on this website. People in the USA absolutely won't tolerate messed up cars that break (especially mercedes), (even though they drive cars that get low mileage and drive them harder to get even less mileage and then complain about fuel prices when they could be driving a diesel, sad isn't it). My Mercedes 1985 190D 4cyl diesel has at least 500,000 miles on the engine. The only time we have to ever work on it is when the filters or oil gets old and then replace.

"People in the USA absolutely won't tolerate messed up cars that break"

That's the funniest thing I've read on this site, thanks for the laugh!

Hahha, agree totally with the comment above! USA cars are the worst cars for reliability in the world!
