1995 Mitsubishi FTO GS 1.9 16v

Summary:

優秀 (Excellent)

Faults:

Heater matrix is leaking a little bit, but it'll give me something to do at the weekend.

General Comments:

Brakes - 2 thumbs up

Acceleration for a 1.8 - 2 thumbs up

Top speed - 125-130MPH

Tiptronic box - 2 thumbs up

Handling - Best 2 door front drive car I've driven

Looks - TO DIE FOR. (I wish I had more thumbs)

Fuel Consumption - £15 at 94.9 gives 100 miles at 27 mpg. Good enough.

Finding things under the carpets and under the seats when you take them out - Priceless.

* Japanese coins

* Japanese condom

* Plastic cups and a pen

* A few pennies

Space for a coupe - great, couldn't call it a family car, but it fits my wife, our 2 kids and myself in with comfort.

Boot is even capacious. Shopping buggy and sub.

Bad bit - cheap Japanese plastic interior that breaks when you take bits off.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO

Summary:

It's a minter

Faults:

Front driver side bush's replaced.

General Comments:

As a woman driver, I've never really been interested in cars. That is till I got my black demon as I call it!

It was love at first sight. I love that people always have a comment on it, not always good (jealousy).

I need new alloys.

My boyfriend says I've turned into a girl racer. I love this car.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO 2.0

Summary:

Everything you want in a sports car

Faults:

So far so good, apart from a little rattling noise when the engine is cold.

General Comments:

I have only owned the car for a week and I'm in love with it!

The tiptronic gear box is great fun, when you are in town or in a traffic jam, you can have it on auto mode for cruising around, and when you are in a mood for some power and speed, switch it to manual and off you go!

I have got the older model (95) so it only has upto 4 gears. I would definitely look into a newer one with the 5 gears.

The more I look at the body work, the more I'm in love with it, the amount of people turning around to check it out is unreal, it's as if you are in a Ferrari! My one’s in red, so it's even more eye catching.

It is surprisingly economical on fuel as well, you can easily do 30mpg.

The other great thing about FTOs is that you rarely see one, unlike MR2s or Celicas.

This car is awesome value for money, you more or less gets everything you want in a sports car.

All in all, I am very glad that I decided to buy one instead of opting for an Audi A3.

Question: I am having problems finding out what model my FTO is i.e. GR or GPX etc. It's not mentioned anywhere on the log book, nor in the service history. It is a 2 litre 24v V6. I wonder if anyone can shed some light?

It is 2L v6, so it is either the GR or GPX model.

Look under the hood, if the engine has 'MIVEC' written on it in big letters its the GPX :p.

If it's a GPX, it will have the oil filler cap on the left hand side of the engine... near the cambelt... the non mivec V6's have it on the right.. hope this helps.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX 2L V6 MIVEC

Summary:

Good looks 7 fun to drive

Faults:

The middle section of the exhaust broke in 2. Ended up getting a full stainless exhaust installed.

This car eats drop links & ARB bushes.

General Comments:

Absolutely fantastic fun to drive, but can be a little hairy on wet or icey roads due to having no ABS or traction control. The V6 MIVEC engine has loads of power at 197BHP before any mods & the sound the engine makes when it gets into the MIVEC range (>5500RPM) is to die for. This MIVEC roar can be greatly improved by fitting an ITG performance air filter. The manual gearbox are rare, but are definitely worth the wait. It is a fantastic looking Japanese Coupe & has plenty of character & charisma, with plenty of people turning heads as you drive by. It's high end acceleration is awsome for a non turbo powered car.

On the downside, the interior is a bit plasticy as in most Japanese cars & the seat upholstery truly is ugly. It doesn't have anything like the build quality of most european cars & the whole car has a very light tiny feel to it. That said I haven't had anything really go wrong on it. It's biggest fault is without doubt its brakes which really are poor on any car, let alone one with this sort of power & acceleration. If money is being spent on upgrading this car the brakes would be a very good start. it can also be very thirsty with me only getting around 22MPG most of the time with this going up to 26 on longer trips & down to 20 when you push her.

All in all this car is fantastic fun & it's like being inside an arcade game.
