1995 Mitsubishi FTO gpx 2.0L mivec

Summary:

Stunning,absolutely stunning.

Faults:

Front ns strut

Big end (engine replacement needed)

General Comments:

Car is very quick for a NA FWD 2.0l.

Revs all the way up to 8k.

Is a bit heavy on petrol - but that is to be expected from a car with this kind of performance.

Cannot be beaten for the money.

Car handles alright, but it does have a slight tendency to over-steer when put to the test (quite rare in a FWD car!).

Car isn't lacking anything in the looks department - even if kept standard it's still a stunner.

Ride is firm. Seats are comfy - bucket seats all around.

Surprisingly large space in the back - short people will be comfy.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GR 2.0V6

Summary:

Good fun but, expencive running costs

Faults:

No real faults as yet.

General Comments:

Nice sports car with very muscular looks. This car will destroy every hot hatch and will give big engines and turbos a run for there money.

Fto's are crap!they drive like an old woman. buy something else.

Re: The previous quote "FTO's are crap" I'm guessing that the unnamed contributer is probably 12 or 13, never been anywhere near a FTO let alone in one. Only experience is on a Playstation. Anyone agree???

Yes I do think he sounds about 12 years old, I have a FTO 2.0 V6 manual, not added much to it, but I can tell you they are not slow not when you know how to drive a car like that. To all those moaning about the FWD,to get the car converted to a RWD is kind of expensive, but WELL worth it, it makes the car 100% more fun to drive, and don’t we all drive a car like this for fun?

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX 2.0 mivec

Summary:

Slow sports car

Faults:

So far, I haven't had any problems with the car.

General Comments:

The car is very reliable and comfortable, it also looks good and handles like a dream, but doesn't have the power you would expect from a 2.0 mivec.

I don't think 0-60 in just over 6 seconds is slow! and the price you can pick up a gpx manual is fantastic-value for money and speed. As you can guess I own a gpx manual!

I agree, for the price and the fact that the engine isn't turbocharged this car is one of the quickest in it's category. I also own a manual GPX 2.0L V6 MIVEC, and if I am honest, I've driven a lot of FTO's...if the car has been treated well and the engine is in good nick it will impress, if it hasn't been well cared for, it will not. Simple as.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GPX 2.0 V6 MIVEC

Summary:

A mighty head turner!

General Comments:

The car is a real head-turner.

In standard form the car is very attractive, but mine has had a few modifications:

- "Bozz Speed" rear spoiler

- 17" AVS Model-5 alloys

- Twin stainless steel exhausts

- HKS induction kit

- Clear side repeaters

- Blue dials / aluminium dial rings

- Double DIN Kenwood hi-fi

I would definitely recommend buying a FTO.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GS 1.8

Summary:

If you see one for sale buy it!

Faults:

Central locking motor burnt out (Common Problem)

Window rattles when down (Common Fault)

General Comments:

This car isn't as powerful as the GPX or Gr models, but it is only the engine that differs.

The car has stunning looks and handling and must be a contender for the best front wheel drive sports coupe.

Standard wheels are horrible (usual Japanese sports car) but fit a set of 17 or 18 inch alloys and you have a beautiful car.

1995 Mitsubishi FTO GR 2.0 V6

Summary:

Gorgeous. Why were they not introduced in Britain by Mitsubishi?

Faults:

The only fault I have had is the ignition key could not be removed. The garage sent a mechanic out at 7pm (one hour after I had reported the fault) and removed a locking pin that apparently locks the key. It seems to be quite a common fault, or so I am told. It only took the mechanic thirty minutes to complete and this was on my driveway.

General Comments:

The car has gorgeous looks from the front, but is either love it or hate it as far as the rear view is concerned.

The interior ergonomics are excellent with everything coming easily to hand.

The seats are very supportive with a good, sensible choice of adjustments. This is very useful as I am over six feet tall.

There are some very quirky but enjoyable gadgets such as "FTO" lit up in blue on the door sills, the beeper when you are reversing and the automatic collapsing door mirrors when space is tight.

My FTO has 17 inch diameter wheels fitted with very low profile tyres. These fill the arches out much better than the standard ones that look too narrow for the car. The ride is harsher, but the handling is excellent with superb feedback from the road.

The previous owner has fitted a Japanese racing air filter that looks similar to the British K&N type product.

I am not sure how much power this gives, but the intake roar is something else.

The tiptronic gearbox is excellent and is well worth considering if you are looking at buying a FTO. It is very slick and gives good control when driving.

I heard that the FTO needs under sealing to prevent corrosion. I have inspected mine and it looks well protected underneath. I have been told that it will only cost me 30 British pounds to get the car under sealed so I will get this done anyway as a precaution.

I have just recently had my FTO under sealed and it was £130.00 so either I've been stung or your quote is way off. The under sealing I have had done is superb an very thorough.

8th Jan 2003, 17:21

You have not been stung.

The reviewer quote @ £30 is exceptionally optimistic. To do a thorough under-seal takes around 3 to 4 hours. You have to mask off suspension parts, brake bits as well as other areas that you don't want under-seal to adhere to.

If you can get a few hours of a trained mechanics labour, + materials for £30 - please let me know!!

Stephen.
