1998 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 5 2.0 turbocharged l-4 DOHC

Summary:

High performance BEAST

Faults:

I got so excited while accelerating, I put it in 2nd gear too hard and broke the gear stick.

General Comments:

I am a rally driver and my dad is the Cyprus rally champion of 1995. I have 2 evolutions one is a later model than this, which is a evolution 4 which I use for rallying and I have to say, at 4WD this cars can handle any surface at any speed on any terrain. Absolutely magical, Long live Mitsubishi.

At 280ps/6,500rpm, this car is amazingly fast and the acceleration stops your blood flow to the brain. The engine Roar turns me on, just as good as my girlfriend does!

Yeah, I agree, Evos rock. Sure Cadburys make pistons for Scoobys :) Pure chocolate pistons...

Not getting into which the better car is but the Scooby Boxer engine burble is a far nicer sound as the Evo sounds nothing special!

Looking at the cars purely based on sound, the Subaru is definitely the winner.

The Boxer engine sounds much more unique and burbles more and you can tell it's an Impreza coming round the corner before you even see it. I am not defending the pistons or talking about performance, but on sound, the Evo is just another turbo petrol compared to the Impreza's Boxer engine.

On sound probably you are right. The Scooby wins by a slight margin, but on handling, speed, looks, comfort... All that, leave it for Evo especially the Evo 10.

Gives me a more tingling effect.

After all the back to back comparisons every time the new models come out, there is never much between them. Sound is by far better in the Scooby, but reliability, the Evo has it! I'm not a fan of the current hatch Scooby, and much prefer the Evo.

1998 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.3 petrol

Summary:

Reliable, but not exciting, very poor resale value

Faults:

Nothing - this is a very reliable car.

General Comments:

The bonnet suffers very badly from stone chips - more so than any other car I have had. Some of the stone chips are starting to rust even though the car has an 8 year corrosion warranty.

Some exterior joints around rear light cluster are rusting. Returned car to Mitsubishi who repaired the affected areas, but 3 months later the rust was back.

I have never seen a car like it use brake pads - 7k miles per set if lucky.

This so called review is so ridiculous, it is almost humorous. My experience with the 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer has been completely contrary to this biased review. This car has been very reliable and economical to me, that I would certainly purchase another Mitsubishi without question.

In my opinion, the review is not accurate. I drive a Mitsubishi Lancer GLX (A) bought in the year 2000. It was great; reliable, smooth and relatively easy to maintain. I ever drove a Honda Accord 2.3 before and seriously, the Lancer is better in terms of handling then the Accord. No doubt the Accord is a faster car, but to me, handling is more important then speed. The writer of this review should try driving other cars; make a thorough assessment and comparison before reviewing.

HI.

I have Mitsubishi OZ rally Edition car and from my experience it is a great car, very economical, stylish and far superior than Honda or Toyota cars in same category.

I completely disagree with "experts" comments here, s/he needs too look into other cars before expressing his biased approach.

My next car will be Mitsubishi Montero.

Thanks.

My 1999 CE Lancer GLXi wagon (Estate for you British!) which I have reviewed on this site has still got the original brake pads after 84,000 KM, and has only had two tyres replaced. It is due for tyres now though.

It is surprising to hear that a smaller car would wear brake pads out so quickly.

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Very solid car, smooth ride, very comfortable interior. Could do with more power/larger engine option. Cheap to run and service.
