1993 Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed 2.5 turbo diesel

Summary:

A most comfortable 4x4

Faults:

Oil leak at inlet/outlet union on engine block adjacent to oil filter. This pipe takes oil to cooler and back into the engine block. Care is needed when oafs change the oil filter. Monitor the various pulleys and belts and test play, especially after dealers have changed them (cam+balance belts and alternator).Mine fell off!

General Comments:

Considering this car is 12 years old, it is in mint condition and is a first class drive providing great comfort.

1993 Mitsubishi Pajero Exceed 2.8 turbo diesel

Summary:

Extremely solid and powerful beast!

Faults:

Engine sometimes cuts out when cold, after car has travelled approximately 100 metres. This is a common fault and the front fuel pump seal is to blame. Haven't had it fixed yet as estimated price to change is £200!

General Comments:

For a 4x4 this size it does take off when you need it to!

The ride is as comfy as it gets. I've travelled in my bosses Jaguar and the Jag didn't even come close to the comfort of the Pajero!

Lots of toys are included in the Exceed model, including electric mirrors that fold in and tilt; electrically adjustable suspension; air conditioning; fold flat front and rear seating; 2 boot seats that fold up against the sides; 2 wheel and 4 wheel drive low and high selector; arm rests; tool kit in boot door; ABS; & many others!

It's a bit greedy on the Diesel mind, and if you drive it like you stole it, you'll need to steal some money to run it!

All in all thought, it's a really nice drive, it looks like it just came out of the factory, bar a few gaskets on the wheel arches popping out, but all the electrics work like a dream!

The car handles like a rock in 4 wheel drive mode, but can sometimes kick out in 2 wheel drive mode in the wet, so careful cornering is advised!

The air vent in the centre console has popped out at the left hand side, and this is said to be a common problem, but nothing a bit of strong glue couldn't take care of!

Very good vehicle for city and long distance driving in Manila and nearby provinces. I had recently acquired this 1991 5-dr Pajero from Japan. It was originally a right-hand driven vehicle, but was converted to a LHD upon arrival in Subic, Philippines.

Condition: It had 46,000 kms and the general appearance is good. Paintwork was a bit rough, but was easily improved with buffing and a quick paint-over by the dealer.

Initial problems: Sun-roof, broken speedometer, and starter assembly were all repaired.

Operation: very smooth, engine has enough power, durable and can operate flooded streets with ease.

Acquisition cost: Roughly US $8,000.00 inclusive of import taxes, repairs and legal documentation.

Problems: It has lots of warning lights that easily light up even without any cause. This is usually due to wear and tear or lack of use.

In sum, it is a good vehicle for budget-conscious motorists, out-door enthusiasts and those who like to self-maintain vehicles.

Thank you for this review, I've just acquired one of these and was trying to find reviews for them! Mine's just done 190km. Which I believe to be great for its age! Rev-meters not working but should be a easy fix, do you still have yours? And if so what faults have you come into and have you modified it?
