2003 Mitsubishi Shogun DI-D Elegance 3.2 diesel
Summary:
Expensive but worth it
Faults:
Lots, but mostly expensive preventative maintenance, of which the Shogun requires a lot of if you want reliability. The biggest mistake people make buying these vehicles is thinking they are solid 4x4's that will run forever. They can be - but the servicing required will cost you, but it is worth it depending how you use the vehicle. Ours was bought used with history and looked after (essential) and rarely gave us trouble beyond the usual wear and tear, but we looked after it well and didn't go off road as much as these normally do. It had an easy life compared to most.
General Comments:
Expensive to buy and run, the Shogun of this era is a proper 4 wheel drive that will do you good for long drives and the occasional rough terrain adventure.
Huge vehicle, very comfortable inside, spacious. Elegance model has the lot. Leather, electrics.
3.2 diesel moves well enough but only does 27 mpg; poor for diesel, but it is a huge heavy vehicle, and automatic.
Sold it a few years ago, was a great thing to have and we miss it dearly in the family, but other 4x4's nowadays cost a ridiculous amount of money to buy and run, the Shogun was too, but at-least it was doable for people back then.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Shogun Sport 2004 with 46000 miles.
If you look after them, they won't let you down, ie service regularly and flush out fuel system, the pumps and injectors need to be kept clean to avoid premature engine wear.
As for cruising at 75mph on motorway? That's too high a speed for such a low geared car, it would be around 4000,4500 revs, it would have been screaming (see previous post) it'll cruise at 65 70mph all day long, maybe too slow for most, but it's a trailer puller with comfy seats!!!
