1992 Nissan 100NX Targa 1.6 carb

Faults:

The exhaust snapped in half about a month after I bought it, and the clutch failed about 3 months later. The dealers bust one of the door locks fitting the alarm, and then bust the interior door trim fixing the lock. Also my air circulation switch is stuck (surprise).

General Comments:

A lovely car to drive, but a serious lack of aftermarket parts for it (ie: bodykit, filters, spoilers etc). Nice and reliable but expensive to fix when it goes wrong (my MOT cost me £400 for two things).

1992 Nissan 100NX 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Lovely reliable small coupe

Faults:

Air circulation control stuck!

Parcel shelf hangers broke & replaced - make sure the parcel shelf is down when you shut the boot, otherwise, ping!

Acceleration lag - a service sorts it out, but it creeps back. I may try a K&N filter & new plugs.

Make sure you get decent tyres for the front - all to easy to lose grip when pulling away.

I think fuel economy is poor, but I do floor it.

General Comments:

Yes, getting the injection model would have been better, but we couldn't afford the extra £1000.

Lovely gearchange. Smelly CAT.

You can fit a 8'x12" plank of wood in it with the back seat down (can't fit a roofrack) :-)

All in all, I agree with everyone else on this site!

Next step up - either newer injection model, or 300ZX (T-top again). I wonder how I could get hold of a 100NX 2.0i??

OK - since writing that we've had:

Rear shock needed changing - paid £145 - yes I now know to go see larkspeed.com for £69!!

Central locking is playing up.

Drivers auto-close/open window switch needs attention.

I'm going to sort these two electrical problems out, and am also actually going to get around to getting the right K&N air filter to sort out the "turbo-lag" problem at 3000 RPM.

Now got P6000s on the front.

Oh, and the (original) radio has a bit of trouble with tapes - a dry joint or bad connection I think.

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

A good and fun car. It was no sports coupe but it was a nice means of getting around. I used it for a long daily commute and thoroughly enjoyed it. T-bar roof an excellent idea which gave you the best of both worlds. Performance hardly scorching but it was fairly well refined and felt a bit faster than it actually was. Interior space excellent given the bodystle. Running costs very cheap. Just could have done with looking a bit better.

1992 Nissan 100NX 1.6 carb 16v petrol

Faults:

Catches holding the parcel shelf have broken 3 times. The engine occasionally appears to 'miss' when accelerating gently, could be a carburettor problem but have yet to have it diagnosed. Drivers electric window makes a funny noise but works fine.

General Comments:

Nice car to look at, performance of the carburettor model combined with the 'cat' isn't amazing. Insurance is also high (group 12) for a 1.6 litre. However it is very reliable, smooth and a little bit different.

1992 Nissan 100NX 1.6 16v (carb) petrol

Faults:

Looking at the other reviews it seems everyone has the air con lever sticking. Mine was OK but now is broken.

Fuel economy is terrible 20-25mpg at the moment. Have been into dealer and everything is OK. Nothing I can do!

Rear parcel shelf hangers have broken off. DO NOT lose the roof bag, it is expensive and hard to get hold of.

General Comments:

Excellent drive, except economy, will not sell this car as I know I will miss it if it goes.

I have had my Nissan better known as BANANA by my children, for obvious reasons for 5 months now.

Barely missed out on parts for it several times.

I would like to do the few things it needs doing.

IE: drivers seat has small hole in and catches on clothes, drivers window motor has gone, and would like the original alloys for it too.

I have yet to find another yellow one.

No major problems as yet, but the person I bought it off had it from new and brought it over from living in Hong Kong!!

Love driving it and hope it keeps me going for sometime.

1992 Nissan 100NX SLI 1.6i 16v twin cam petrol

Faults:

Air circulation switch is stuck.

When braking the car doesn't always want to follow the drivers mind.

General Comments:

This is a car that you will love from the beginning. It is supplied with a T-Bar, which is excellent in the summer and ideal in the winter. So you will have only the advantages of a convertible.

Best of all, it looks & drives great.

Disadvantages:

- uses a lot of gas

- When driving without the roof, a hurricane will go through your car when driving faster than 80 km/h. This will result in a harder to control car.

Advantages:

- No engine sound inside

- Good engine sound outside

- looks nice

- drives great

- T-BAR

- Reliability

1992 Nissan 100NX 1.6i petrol

Faults:

Bad dynamo, had it replaced. No problem after that.

Air inlet (switch to choose between fresh air intake and recirculation of the air inside the car). Had this fixed for three times now. Broke down every time after a few days. Gave up hope, let it be....:-)

Rear suspension. Just one of them went bad. Replaced it. No problem after that.

General Comments:

This is the finest car I have had in my life! It looks nice, it runs nice and it feels nice..... What more do I want?

The only thing..... it's a bit thirsty!

But then, that's my problem. Because I'm an agressive driver....
