1992 Nissan 300ZX Fairlady Z 3.0 Twin turbo

Summary:

A great drivers car bar none

Faults:

Prop-shaft bearing and universal joints failed 1 month into ownership.

Gearbox mount needed replacing.

Timing belt replaced.

General Comments:

Fantastic performance I bought this car as a Japanese import, stock except for intake, exhaust and Tein suspension.

It sticks to the road like glue, even if you hang the tail out wide (on a track of course).

The interior is comfortable and well laid out.

1992 Nissan 300ZX Fairlady 3.0 Twin turbo

Summary:

This car is absolutely amazing

Faults:

Interior clock stopped working.

Horn stopped working.

Drivers side seat starting to wear.

Ignition module died after about 4 months ownership.

Odd sounds from engine lead to a completely new gearbox rebuild.

General Comments:

Although a few things have gone wrong with the car, the gearbox being the most painful to put right, I have had nothing, but sheer joy driving this beauty.

For a car this age I expected things to go wrong at some stage and knew parts would be costly. But I didn't care. I wanted a serious performance car and that is what I got.

As far as performance goes hardly anything can touch it. Acceleration is blistering and seems to keep giving more and more. I recommend not driving at top speed with targa roofs off if you are a tall person and love your hair. Wind buffeting your forehead at high speed is just not pleasant.

The only thing I would say to anyone thinking of buying a car like this is to have a garage to put it in first. This car will turn heads and parking this car outside your house on an estate. It attracts too much attention. It is a true babe magnet!

My car is an import and was fitted with two dump valves and a turbo timer before I bought it. The turbo timer helps to extend the longevity of the turbos. The dump valves are always great fun!

Warning: this car is not wet-road- friendly!!

1991 Nissan 300ZX Fairlady 3.0 Twin turbo

Summary:

Fantastic - can't fault it

Faults:

Minor problems really, front lamp blew, but was £30.00 to replace.

Passenger door seal has split so the window pops out now and again (annoying)

Radiator leak - replaced (expensive)

Small oil and fuel leak.

General Comments:

It does 160mph on the speedo.

It looks brand new (when cleaned)

Not everybody owns one (big craze in the UK with Scooby Doo's) nice to own something different.

IT'S ALL MINE!!!

1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin turbo

Summary:

A super car that's just sheer crazy with the potential to be just manic!

Faults:

I had to replace the Power Transistor Unit (these units have an annoying habit of breaking down unless you relocate them on the 300ZX as they are close to where all the heat is generated). A couple of bad hoses needed to be fixed and it is best to change the oil at least every 3000 miles on this car.

General Comments:

This car is stupendously quick when pushed, even in it's standard 300 HP form. Handles corners brilliantly and is just a dream to drive in the dry. Crazy and dangerous if you push it hard in the wet though. This car, despite being over 10 years old now, still out drags modern day high performance cars, including Porche, BMW and Cosworths. Engine standard has potential to handle up to 600HP! Plenty of after-market add ons to increase power. Can be costly to run and the Power Transistor Units can break down when you least suspect it. Automatic keeps the turbos running and standard 0 to 60 times of approximately 5 seconds are easily achieved. Limited electronically to 155mph, though this can be switched off if you upgrade your performance chip!

Brakes are a little weak and some owners prefer the skyline versions or an after-market disc and pad.

Steering is sweet and those big tyres let you know what road you are driving on! Standard bushes are not brilliant on the suspension/steering and upgraded ones are available.

Cabin in the front is ergonomic-ally excellent, though it is very cramped in the rear!

Running parts are expensive so shop around. Avoid Main dealers as they will exploit you!

Hey, I completely agree. I'm 16 years old and I just got a used Z and it's truly a fantastic car. Now that Nissan is coming out with the new Z, I think the Nissan Z may be one of the best sports car lines in the last 20 or so years.
