2006 Nissan Primera SX 1.6 petrol
Summary:
Unusual, but certainly worth a look!
Faults:
Nothing so far, some trouble with the Air conditioning, tends to whine for a while after being turned on.
General Comments:
Just to clarify, this is a rental car I am stuck with while doing a PhD degree. I wouldn't buy a new one even if I did have the money! (EUR28,000)
Strange looking car, the benefits are reaped with the surprisingly large amount of head and leg room offered by the Nissan. It is often referred to as a potato wedge on wheels by some of my colleagues. (can't fault them, its true.)
The 1.6 engine is quite economical on longer journeys, reporting an average of >38 mpg. Town driving rapidly drops the figure to 30 mpg, having said that, I drive it quite hard in the lower gears.
It is vastly underpowered, first gear does not pull until around 1500 rpm, leading to some suicidal moments at junctions! The 4th and 5th gears offer no comfort, they are miles too long and make overtaking a dangerous and ill-advised gamble!
It suffers badly from stiffened suspension, handling is quite good as a result, but sometimes feels giddy over rougher surfaces.
Rough suspension ruins the ride at all speeds, which is a pity as most of the rest of the car is well thought out, except of course, for the dials controlling the integrated Radio/CD and air conditioning system.
Reversing camera is quite nice, if a little silly, it looks at the ground, rather than directly behind the car at a 0 angle. The level of trim is excellent, the seats are well designed and the driving position is good.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No
