Hi mate, I've got a Sunny coupe and love it to bits. But you don't know what the wheel PCD is do you?

22nd Jul 2006, 15:09

Hey guys, I just got one of them now, very quick, good condition, and I'm surprised how quick they are.

Such a car is a must for someone who loves something speedy, and very interesting and lovable.

If you find one, don't let it go and at least drive it once.

Michail, kind regards, all the best.

If anyone knows where I can get parts for it, proper service or anything to do with these cars, let me know, as my Nissan dealer is really crap.

1989 Nissan Sunny ZX Coupe 1.8 Twin Cam 16v

Summary:

Fast fun, just hope it lasts!

Faults:

Exhaust manifold split

CV joint

Radiator lost core

Running badly.

General Comments:

This car is both great and annoying. It is fast as hell past about 4000 rpm and hadles well except for terrible under steer on mine int the wet.

A good laugh, but a pain when it goes wrong. Mine makes a rattly sound when I thrash it, but it has been doing it for ages now and I don't know what it is. Will cane it till it dies!

1989 Nissan Sunny ZX 1.8 16v

Summary:

Like a wilful and masochistic lover, the more you thrash it, the more it likes it!

Faults:

Rear brake calipers seized.

Fuel gauge is not working.

Clutch slave cylinder broke.

That's about it.

General Comments:

140 mph plus on the M62!

Werewolf in puffs clothing.

God loves it. Everyone else thinks its crap!

Needs a bit of work on the handling side it's very slow to turn in on tight corners. (very baggy)

Noisy.

Engine develops an alarming rattle on left hand bends.. Oil starvation?

I'm going to rally it soon so the totally original and totally unmarked bodywork is going to get all puckered.

Where can I get competition parts?

I hate those silly coupe models, boats and noddy cars, horrid.

Not as 'innit mate' as a Corolla GTi.

Long first gear.

Fast is not furious, for that try a 205 GTi or a Rover GTi or even the saddest of sad Ford range of crap.

I had a 309 GTi that was a bit sorted and I know that the sunny will never give the same level of balance as that car, the quickest car I've driven A to B on a winding country road.

Horrid wheels.

Silly seats.

I love it!

1989 Nissan Sunny GS 1.3

Summary:

Practical, Reliable, Comfortable Hatchback

Faults:

Exhaust needed to be replaced.

It had just had a new clutch fitted when I bought it.

Everything worked on this car all of the time.

New battery.

Eventually I replaced it when it kept dropping out of 5th gear, but I was told this would be an inexpensive repair.

General Comments:

It won't set the tarmac on fire, but it does the job very well.

A very well screwed together, practical hatchback with almost faultless reliability.

All electric pack and good seats make it comfortable on long or short journeys.

The only things that went wrong were the standard disposable parts.

1989 Nissan Sunny ZX 1.8 16v TWIN CAM

Summary:

I am keeping it

Faults:

Bought the car for one hundred pounds with no mot or tax. There were no brake pads some rust and in need of a service spent two hundred and eighty pounds to put it through the mot.

General Comments:

Well it's a head turner & rubber burner, it's fully loaded not corroded. There is certainly no turning back on ZX.

1989 Nissan Sunny ZX 1.8 twin cam

Summary:

Great to drive and look at, but buy in haste and you'll regret it

Faults:

This car has required the following work:

Bodywork renovation.

New plugs.

New coil tower.

New water pump.

Co2 Setup.

Timing adjustment.

Power steering pulley adjustment.

General Comments:

The 1.8 Twin Cam engine inside these cars requires the attention of a specialist mechanic, you shouldn't mess with it yourself. If it's good you won't need to.

The engine doesn't have a coil and spark plug leads. It has a wiring loom and four independant coil towers directly on top of the spark plugs. These coil towers start to fail after about 90,00 0miles but on the bright side when one goes it is progressive and the car won't grind to a standstill. They cost £75 each.

If your buying one check the following areas:

Put your finger inside the rear wheel arches against the sill below the door and check that the body hasn't corroded below the big lump of mud you'll pull out.

Check the base of the pillars against the sill for rust and go to a tyre dealer who will lift the car so you can check the rear underbody for corrosion around the suspension.

Check the tailgate of a rust spot at its centre near the locking catch hoop (if it isn't rusting you've found a really good one).

Check the PVC at the outer edge of the drivers seat because it splits indicating heavy wear.

Driver it for at least 15 miles and finish on a fast road and listen for noises resembling pinging above 6,000 rpm.

Finally take a mechanic who will do a compression test. At 80,000 miles, 170-185 means it's most likely good, 200 plus means it's probably burning oil.

These cars shouldn't use any oil or water at all.

Only use synthetic oil.

Good ones are fantastic, but if you don't want something to fall in love with, you just want a car, don't buy one.

They handle well, at high revs they're aggressive and at low revs they're respectable work horses.

Great looking future classics. £1200 is the right price for a good one at 80,000 miles.
