2011 Peugeot 207 Sportium 1.4 petrol

Summary:

Nice looking small hatch that does the job

Faults:

Basically nothing other than servicing and wear and tear parts. Clutch judders, but has not failed.

General Comments:

After my old 206 failed an MOT (it was 17 years old) I found this nice bright white 207, very sharp looking car. Been a good daily driver the last few years.

"Sportium" model is well equipped but is not sporty at all (barely has 75 bhp). The 1.4 is slow but will do you a solid 45 mpg.

The car has been reliable so far, I would say Peugeot finally improved general quality of materials in their cars after 2010.

Rear legroom is rather cramped, but up front is OK. Ride is smooth for a smaller car, quiet around town, little too much wind noise on the motorway however. Dash is very stylish in my opinion. Outside looks great also, 5 spoke traditional Peugeot alloy wheels look great and are easy to keep clean.

Nice alternative to a Fiesta or Focus or whatever, the 207 does not seem as popular as the old 206 was, but I would say it is a better car.

2007 Peugeot 207 SX 1.4 petrol

Summary:

Comfortable to drive, but overpriced

Faults:

Nothing at all.

General Comments:

The 207 has a nice exterior, with a few aggressive lines at the front and the typically large and curved headlights.

The interior has a modern design to it, with dark plastics and metallic contours. The seats are comfortable to sit in even on long journeys and are easily adjustable. The dashboard is easy to read and is well shielded from the sunlight. The 6 speakers provide a good quality sound however the integrated CD player lacks MP3/USB stick connection ports and cannot be changed. The side pillars are too thick and can get in the way of your vision at low speeds, for example if you are driving through a suburban area.

Safety-wise there are 6 airbags, ABS and it received a high safety rating from EuroNCAP. It came with an immobiliser, central locking, electric front windows and mirrors.

The 1.4 petrol engine however lacks acceleration across the board making it harder to pull off at round abouts or to overtake on country roads. Fuel economy is not exceptional either.

It was a very reliable car though, and I never had to bring it in for repairs in the two years I owned it.

All in all, it is a comfortable and safe car. But it is overpriced and you should consider alternative models before you buy one.

2001 Peugeot 207 110 2.0 HDi turbo diesel

Summary:

Poor

Faults:

Dual mass flywheel disintegrated.

Alternator failed.

Vibration damper failed.

General Comments:

Would be a great car if only it was reliable... It's not in the same league reliability wise as the many 306's I owned over the years, although it's a far better car in every other aspect.

I (driving instructor) commented last year regarding the "flywheel" fault. Now I feel the need to warn ya of the "crankshaft pulley"... It collapsed and the inner part of it decided to make a dash for freedom... it cut a seven inch diameter hole into the timing case, and then threw the rubber bonding and parts of the broken timing case into the timing belt... nice!.. The timing jumped a few teeth and the result was a set of smashed cam followers... lucky in that I had no damage to the valves. Maybe Peugeot have built in a "weak link" for this reason, because looking at the "cam followers", they remind me of part of a Lego set I had as a child.

After the failure, "everything" electrical shut down... re-set by computer after repair!

The thing I wanted to point out is that there was no warning whatsoever... no noise or vibration...

"Check your crank pulley" because you may not be as lucky as I was... could wreck the whole engine! This is a very common fault on most of the Peugeot/Citroen range, or so I'm told by my parts supplier.
