1994 Peugeot 306 XR 1.6
Summary:
A good bargain, but little things let it down a bit
Faults:
Alarm kept going off when driving.
Engine earth wire broke so car wouldn't start.
Tyres wear out really quickly. I have had them replaced twice in the 18 months I have had it.
The main problem is now where the idle speed is playing up. Car won't tick over for about first 3 minutes when started. Once engine is warmed up the rev counter bounces between 500 and 1300 RPM.
Has anyone got any ideas how to fix this? (I have tried altering accelerator cable and idle speed, but to no avail)
General Comments:
The car doesn't look too bad and is fairly quick.
The seats are pretty comfortable and the interior is clean throughout.
However the build quality is a bit poor in places and is pretty flimsy.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have had trouble with the rev counter jumping about, but it goes away so I leave it, but I will try changing the spark plugs and the accelerator cable as well. most peugeot`s do not rust easy and the Xr is fun, quite quick and fun to drive. the way to stop the alarm from going off for no reason is to grease the little alarm button on the bonnet.

I had problems with my idling to, not quite as bad as you, but still a bit jumpy. Also when pulling away the car used to bounce around quite a lot : (
A change of the spark plugs and leads fixed it :)
Hope that helps.
