Faults:

Battery constantly flat (Dealer) £66.

Battery Earth Lead Corroded through causing poor starting. (Dealer) £85.

Drive shafts vibration (Dealer) £250.

Interior Clock not working (Breaker) £5.

Fuel Leak from injection pipes £20.

Wiper Motor high speed wipe failed (Breaker) £50.

General Comments:

Excellent fun car although can be expensive to run and maintain.

20-25mpg and £45 to fill the petrol tank. Manage about 300 miles per tank.

Great to drive. Very positive steering and very impressive road holding.

Lovely engine and sings all the way to 7000rpm with ease. Engine pulls from about 3-4000rpm and really pull you into the seats.

If you can find one, buy the later model GTi-6 as it has a better quality of finish for little extra expense. IE. Full Leather Interior, Alloy effect dash and stereo surrounds, Crystal Clear Headlights and later spec rear tailgate without the horrible black plastic slam strip along the bottom.

If you can't find the above, then a 1997 New Shape GTi will still keep you smiling. Well until your wallet comes out!

Faults:

I've had this car now for 10000 miles. I'm a young driver so am not the most cautious of drivers. So far absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this car. It came with a full service history the previous owner had no problems either.

General Comments:

I have fallen in love with Peugeot's. This car is fantastic. The turbo-ed diesel engine gives out fantastic torque and it's a fast car for only group 5 insurance which is important to us young drivers.

The build quality of the car is superb until you go inside. Everything rattles and the fan doesn't go off. The seat are also uncomfortable.

Passengers in the back don't have too much room, but you can't expect more from a small car.

Driving the car is a great experience. It handles well, accelerates well and never complains.

On the downside the mud flaps scrape the ground and the brakes are shockingly poor, a problem on most peugeot's.

I'm already thinking on my next car. A 307 or a 206.

Faults:

Air conditioning doesn't work.

Oxygen Sensor failed.

Inlet manifold gasket failed.

Poor electric windows (very jerky)

Center console lights have blown.

General Comments:

The engine is very responsive over 3.5k revs, but can slow to respond when driving around town.

Steering is very responsive, but can suffer from leaks in earlier models.

A must is to have the cam-belt changed before the 72k service as many have failed prior to this service.

Interior build quality is not the best, but the driving position is perfect for throwing the car around corners.

The air conditioning is prone to rust around the pipes and can be very expensive to repair.

Faults:

The drivers side door seal has gone which I am going to have fixed.

The battery died two winters ago.

The airbag light did stay on, but the dealer fixed it.

Interior trimmings don't stand up too well to wear and tear.

General Comments:

The car, although diesel drives very well indeed, but is rather sluggish.

The handling is awesome, considering the 'family runaround' nature of the car.

Front tyres have lasted over 22000 miles with enthusiastic driving!

The front seats lack support.

Faults:

Exhaust fell out with previous owner and I had to replace the exhaust again due to rust.

Even after wheel alignment, car wouldn't drive in a straight line.

Road-handling was rubbish and very dangerous when taking corners at moderate speed.

General Comments:

Inside it's really comfortable, but lacking in interior styling.

Controls are easy to use and standard Peugeot music system is very good in both sound and reliability (the steering-mounted control was a 1st in cars of that age!).

Drive-ability is not great, even without the alloys the car was very sluggish. The engine size is just not big enough for the weight of the car.

Alloys improved the road handling, but then added weight to the car.
