1998 Peugeot 306 GTi Rallye 2.0 16v
Summary:
Unleash the fury!
Faults:
The drivers side electric window is not correctly mounted and rattles.
Gears are quite difficult to find when car is cold.
The clutch is heavy.
Rear windscreen wiper sprayer is not very powerful.
General Comments:
The car is a rocket and pleads to be thrashed!
Looks minimalist from the outside, i. e not a stunning sports car, but the performance is amazing!
Although interior is not as high spec as the GTI6 you don't really need the half leather seats, CD stacker and air-con - this is a car built to be driven to the max.
My dad used to have a GTI6 - changed it for a 206GTI and is well jealous of my Rallye!
The seats although not very attractive are sturdy and comfortable.
Blows away the majority of other vehicles on the road. Where other cars are struggling in fifth I've still got sixth to go! Bring on 140mph..
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

Get in touch with What Car magazine. I remember reading a piece in there a few months back about a Citroen Xantia TD (same engine) which had the same thing happen. One minute driving fine - next minute a bang and all the warning lights came on. Big hole in the side of the block.
It's not unheard of on these engines apparently.
