One word: PERFECT!

Faults:

An amazing car that I owe my life to.

I crashed the car on Friday the 29th of October 2010; without this car being so sturdy and strong, I could have lost my life.

It was a very big accident, going at a rather fast speed; I rolled the car and came out without a scratch on me. Not just my words, but the police and the paramedics said I was lucky to come out alive, no doubt without a mark on me.

The car is now written off, but I've never felt so grateful, and so lucky to have owned this car.

I would recommend this car to anyone.

General Comments:

I owe my life to this car. I cannot fault it.

2002 Peugeot 307 D Turbo HDI 2.0

Summary:

It looks good but a nightmare to maintain

Faults:

The particulate filter won't re-generate, repairer says it is because I drive around town and do not use motorways often enough

Peugeot Customer Care support 'diagnosis' of repairer even though 'new car' dealership (on same site) say that the car should be OK to drive under any conditions.

General Comments:

The car is comfortable to drive.

Problems with the particulat filter and the response from Peugeot are extremely disappointing.

2002 Peugeot 307 HDI 2.0 litre diesel

Summary:

Total disappointment

Faults:

At 69990 miles, the engine on my cherished car expired in a most dramatic fashion. The engine blew apart.

I am blessed with a new engine for £3000 or a re-con for £1700. When the engine is fitted, the car has to go to a Peugeot dealer to have the "Fat Filter" repaired and the diagnostics reset. The cost for this at a dealer another £1000.

The rip off car of the decade.

General Comments:

My car is very comfortable and stable on every corner.

The electrics and diagnostics are a joke.

It's a FAP filter. All part of the expensice particulate filtering system. They are damn expensive when they need fixing or even just fluid adding. You wanted green - you got it... at a price.

You have no choice about what green filters are fitted to a car, because they have to be fitted, nowadays. I thought everyone knew that...

2002 Peugeot 307 LX A/C 1.6

Summary:

Would buy the same again, but competitors are better value

Faults:

Replaced gearbox 19000 miles.

Replaced indicator stick 19000 miles.

Concern re: drivers seat off-centre.

General Comments:

Looks good.

Smooth; auto occasionally grabs 1st/2nd/1st gear.

Feels good except very slow to respond to the accelerator - this improved at service, but then deteriorates.

General Comments:

Great car, just fed up with the cost of the sensors, which make the car undriveable when there is nothing wrong with the car.

Summary:

If the anti pollution fault can now be rectified will be a graet car

Faults:

Clunking noise in engine on turning right.

Anti Pollution Fault recurring on dash with loss of power on start up changing to normal power once the car has warmed up, perhaps linked to driving through flood water.

General Comments:

A lovely car initially, smart, economical with good handling and plenty of space.

Perhaps not so good with the faults which seem to now be appearing.

Summary:

Brilliant!!!

Faults:

Indicator stalk will start to indicate in the opposite direction if you release the wheel too quickly.

Carpet has come out from under the vinyl.

Arm rest gets in the way of using the handbrake.

General Comments:

Car looks absolutely great.

Extremely spacious and comfortable cabin.

Car handles superbly on the motorway.

Steering is light and responsive.

Very economical.

2002 Peugeot 307 Rapier 2.0 HDi 90 bhp turbo diesel

Summary:

A good looking car, spoiled by poor build quality and lack of attention to detail

Faults:

Indicator stalk continually switches to left indicator mode after self cancelling from right.

CV gaiters split at 46000 miles.

Central locking sometimes refuses to lock or unlock at the first attempt.

Front tyres can wear unevenly.

Car vibrates violently on engine start up.

There is a loud rattle from underneath the car when reversing at low revs - nothing found at MOT/Service.

Front sidelights prone to work and fail intermittently.

General Comments:

We traded in a high miler 306 estate with the same engine as this car, based on the fact that the 306 was quick, fairly rugged, and reliable.

The 307 is a very attractive looking car, and our local dealership is first class. Those were two major factors in deciding to buy a 307.

The first thing that we noticed was the car was slower through the gears than the 306. It has been highlighted elsewhere that this is because the 307 is much heavier than the 306. Surely Peugeot should have realised that customers opting to replace their 306 with a 307 were going to notice that the car was bound to be slower by nature of its design and construction?

The handbrake is uncompromisingly placed for right hand drive, and is extremely difficult to operate when the front passenger seat is occupied by an adult.

The windscreen wipers are quirky, and again designed for a LHD car. Their sheer size makes them noisy in operation.

A major niggle with the car is that almost all of the exterior lights are very difficult to replace. The rear lights require removal of the boot trim and its securing rubber strip. I broke the nylon securing pegs trying to relocate all of the bits in their proper places. I also managed to break the headlamp bulb securing bracket when attempting to replace the front offside headlamp. I managed to replace the bulb, but the beam was too high and I had to have it fixed by my local dealer. First time in many years of car ownership where I have been unable to change a bulb, and I previously worked as an electrical fitter on helicopters.

For some reason I find the car exceptionally difficult to park. I can manoeuvre a 40 foot long bus or coach without too much trouble, but the considerable front overhang and rear pillars of the 307 make parking hard work.

Fuel economy is also below that of the 306 with 45 mpg against the 306's 50 mpg.

The car is basically OK and has given us relatively trouble free motoring in the year that we've had it. However, there are some horror stories out there regarding major component failures, and major repair bills to suit.

I reckon we'll keep the car until the finance is clear then it will probably leave us like a greyhound out of a trap.

We also own two Nissan Primeras of 1997 and 1999 vintage. Both are low spec vehicles with high mileage. These cars go on forever, and cost a pittance to keep on the road. Makes us wonder why we bother to play the numberplate snob game every few years, as three old Primeras would do exactly the same job for a lot less money.

Our next "new" car will probably not be a Peugeot despite our pleasant experience with the 306 and our friendly local Peugeot main dealer. There is nothing in the current Peugeot range that looks attractive for buyers of three or four year old cars like us.
