2002 Peugeot 307 LX 1.6 petrol

Summary:

A good buy, maybe not perfect, but good enough to look at another in the future

Faults:

Rattle under chassis - rectified easily by dealer.

Occasionally Radio-Cassette cuts out when TA selected.

Twice a relay has operated in glove box area & all indications lost for an instant, including speed when needle drops to zero & then picks up - keeping an eye on this one.

General Comments:

Before I bought the car (Registered Sept 2002) I read numerous criticisms of the 307 but in my experience they are unfounded.

The car drives well. It is stable, quick and very economic, averaging 38mpg even with lots of local driving.

Feels safe too.

Loads of room in the front and back.

2002 Peugeot 307 LX 1.6 petrol

Summary:

A refined car that's a break from the Norm

Faults:

A piece of carpet in the boot came loose.

Rear Door Handles sometimes hard to pull.

General Comments:

This is my fourth Peugeot, after having a 205XS, 306DT and most recently a 206DT.

The 307 has been more reliable than any of my previous cars, it also handles better, stops better and is very comfortable (as comfortable and refined as my fathers VW Golf mk4).

The two minor niggles above have been the only blotches on an otherwise immaculate copybook, I have had none of the problems others have noted such as indicator stalk problems of badly attached door trims.

The car is economical (40mpg), very refined and handles incredibly. Very Impressed!

2002 Peugeot 307 XSi 2.0

Summary:

Excellent performance, fun ride at a good price

Faults:

Alarm has failed to switch off on more than one occasion, which was seriously embarrassing on a US air base during high alert!

General Comments:

Overall this is a very good car. Performance is excellent for the price range (especially when you learn that it accelerates better at high revs). Under steer makes it fun, excellent brakes and handling (stiff ride, but I expected it in this model).

Only three criticisms:

1. The roof posts obstruct the driver's side vision, as they are too thick.

2. UK driver's side wiper doesn't clear to the edge of the windscreen (obviously no adjustment made from continental model).

3. Wish it had the slick gearshift of my Focus RS.

Otherwise a great car!

2002 Peugeot 307 Rapier 90 2.0 litre HDI diesel

Summary:

First car was a wrong 'un! Hopefully the second will not be such a disappointment

Faults:

Burning smell after two weeks, four attempts to correct - unresolved and the reason the car was replaced after six months.

Odometer replaced. This changed itself into kilometers at 1800 miles, whilst at the dealer's for previous fault (burning smell). It jumped from 1800 to 2800 which was very alarming. Dealer did not believe me and I was made to feel that I was lying to them. Their diagnostic computer was unable to recognize the problem and it took me to work out what had happened. They tried to wash their hands of the problem saying that they needed further proof that this had happened.

Carpet on passenger's side came unstuck - dealer did managed to correct this!

Driver's side carpet coming away from doorway.

Car broke down on two occasions, AA called, who said battery was draining, but could not find out why.

Car felt very sluggish from day one.

Dealer service very bad, until highest management involved.

General Comments:

This is our first experience of a brand new car and a very disappointing one! After only two weeks we discovered that the "new" smell was not wearing off.

Initially told to contact Peugeot Assistance rather than take car back to dealer.

Dealer unable to find cause of burning smell, suggested plastic bag caught under car, but initially disproved this. Lied to on second attempt when bag supposedly found.

Wrangle with dealer concerning correction of odometer reading. Did not feel that a car so young should have incorrect mileage recorded. Dealer eventually paid outside company to rectify new odometer reading.

Third attempt at smell correction revealed moldy pollen filter, which was not the cause of the problem! Some kind of resistance pack was overheating and was replaced, but again problem did not resolve after this.

Dealer admitted defeat on fourth attempt and made deal with Peugeot to replace car at no cost to me (new 03 reg).

Car broke down on two occasions after dealer had agreed to replace it.

Constant persistence by myself causing much stress got me a new car which is presently running well, and is so far only two weeks old, but has had to have a new comms 2000 unit fitted already because the indicators failed! Watch this space!

Despite all this still on good terms with dealer who did fix new car very promptly this time.
