Faults:

Power steering failed at 68,000 miles.

Both electric window motors failed at 74,000 miles.

Wore tyres at an alarming rate.

General Comments:

Considering how some people have been so disappointed with their Peugeot's, mine was a very good car. It had major electrical and steering faults, as well as wearing tyres very quickly, but it was otherwise a reliable car which was as hard as nails. Its ride, handling and performance were all excellent and it was a joy to drive the Peugeot while sitting in its comfortable and spacious interior. The dealers were also very good and I was surprised to hear how many customers have been dissatisfied by the service from some Peugeot dealerships.

Faults:

Needed new head gasket as soon as I bought it.

CV joints knock badly.

Some sort of electrical fault. If I leave the battery terminal on over-night, battery is flat come morning guaranteed. Tried all manner of things, from new alternators, batteries, fuses the lot. Checked electrical system and it shows an all clear!

Rear doors don't unlock with remote.

General Comments:

A superb car to drive. Plenty of space and nice and comfy on long runs.

The good old diesel has done over 218000 miles, and still runs fine providing I take the battery terminal off every night.

It has a few problems, but rest assured it just keeps on going, soldiering on.

Runs excellent on Bio-Diesel, pulls a good 50-55 MPG, and although it has a few faults I just can't bare to part with it.

Faults:

I cannot remember that much went wrong with it.

This was a contract leased car from my company - so if it started and ran when you turned the key any noises could be ignored until the next service - maintenance costs were all inclusive in the lease.

General Comments:

This was a big comfortable car, and I liked it, but it had one major shortcoming.

The engine was 1.6 petrol with a carburettor (fuel injection was less common in 1990) and the engine was a poor match with the automatic gearbox. Exiting a T junction could be lethal - press the throttle and the car would creep at slow speed into the traffic. Press harder in panic and it continued at the same lethargic pace. I very quickly learned to allow extra distance when doing maneuvers from a standing start. The rest of the handling was fine - auto box worked well, kicked down OK, and car could cruise effortlessly on motorways. But the carburettor flat spot on pickaway from start was always there.
