1996 Peugeot 406 excecutive 2.0 16v

Summary:

Fantastic car, with all the gadgets

Faults:

Bulb in digital clock has blown.

Rattle in exhaust.

General Comments:

This is the most comfortable car I have ever sat in, with its full leather interior and full electric pack this car has a lot to offer.

With the executive you have the best of both worlds, it's a safe family car with a 2.0 16v engine that keeps on going, no matter how fast you decide to drive.

1996 Peugeot 406 LX 1.9 turbo diesel

Summary:

Stylish mile-munching commuter

Faults:

Completely mad rev counter - jumps about or sticks at approximately 2000 rpm.

Other than that, only really suffered from wear and tear problems.

However new replacement front disks did warp after only 12000 miles.

General Comments:

Reliable, comfortable, good looking, economical (usually get around 55mpg when driven sensibly).

It's a great commuting machine - mine does minimum of 90 miles, 5 times a week - no complaints.

1996 Peugeot 406 LX 2.0ltr 16v Injection

Summary:

Excellent Family and fun car

Faults:

Battery Dried up. But that's nothing to do with the car itself I suppose. Happens with any car.

General Comments:

Excellent Car. Engine has got plenty of grunt. Can be thirsty if you really throttle it, but that's to be expected with a 2 liter engine. Very reliable, starts first time come rain, hail, snow or shine. Air conditioning is quick to run out though, and sets you back £70 for a recharge. But who uses A/c in Britain?!

At 140 thousand miles, this thing is still flying through the MOT.

1996 Peugeot 406 GLX 1.9 turbo diesel

Summary:

High performance at affordable rates

Faults:

The plastic on the cover of the front doors wore a little and bubbled. Has anyone else had this problem??

General Comments:

This car is very comfortable, and drives as sweet as a nut. The car has a certain safety awareness, that makes the driver feel secure.

1996 Peugeot 406 Executive 2.0 turbo

Summary:

A true sports saloon - a dream come true

Faults:

Clutch replacement (wear and tear).

Handbrake replacement (wear and tear).

Problems with speed sensor - these problems started to occur after having clutch fitted.

Problem with throttle linkage - this also happened after I'd had the clutch fitted...

Engine running weak - this turned out to be the fault of the rolling road tuners who hadn't fitted a turbo boost valve properly!

General Comments:

The 406 2.0 turbo is as rare as horse feathers. Let's put it this way - whenever I take it to a Peugeot garage for any reason, all the staff come out to look at it, particularly the engine.

This rarity presents a problem with modding and repairs. Getting the right components can be a nightmare. Getting components fitted correctly seems to be beyond the talents of every mechanic in the area.

I keep wondering whether I should trade this car in. The 3.0 V6 is slightly faster and a 2.2 TDi is considerably cheaper to run.

But when I'm in the car, luxuriating in the creme leather seats, hearing the engine scream (I've added a stainless exhaust and sports air filter and my car sounds incredible) and feeling the tyres sticking to the road as as negotiate a bend in 3rd gear, I remember why this is the vehicle for me!

It's fun to be the envy of everyone who sees my car. It's fantastic to turn heads when I roll into the executive car park among the 3-a-penny BMWs, the overpriced Mercs and the Ford-driving wannabes.

When I took this car to a racetrack, I was one of the fastest cars there. This vehicle is beyond belief; a true performer, with stiffer suspension than a normal 406 which means better cornering. The way my tyres glue the car to the road during acceleration is amazing.

Sensationally good fun, I would recommend the 2.0 turbo to anyone who wants to get where they're going at sports car speeds, but in total luxury.

Be advised that you may have to remortgage to afford this car.

I would agree with everything you said about the car as I have one also, but I would disagree with what you said as I got mine for £3500 but I was very lucky r reg jet black with all black leather seats, and for anyone who is thinking about buying one then I would recommend it.
