1998 Peugeot 406 LX 2.1 turbo diesel
Summary:
Annoying
Faults:
Speedometer stopped working.
Clicking noise from under the dashboard.
Electric windows stopped working.
Headlight bulbs constantly blowing.
Catalytic converter split.
Rumbling noise from the back wheels.
General Comments:
The car is very comfortable and nice to drive, espescially on a long run.
However the constant electrical faults and road noise from the back end ruin what could be a great car.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have a 1997 P reg' LX Diesel. At approx 65,000 mls I had the clicking dashboard which proved to be the re-circulating pump. At the time it cost about £160 to be replaced at the main dealer. This has happened again at 129,000 mls. Also now at 138,000 mls the speedometer fails intermittently. In view of the mileage I don't think it's too bad.

The comments you posted seem to be for your car experience only. I have an N Reg 406, and have experienced none of the problems you have. I bought my car new, therefore I am the only owner, and have never had the speedometer quit on me, no noise from back end, and the bulbs do blow, but no more than any other car I have. The only major problem I have had, is that the Coil Pack quit on me, but was easy to fit and not too expensive. I agree that it is a very comfortable car to drive, and would surely recommend this car to anyone.
