What things have gone wrong with the car?

Radio on/off button was broken on my car I brought it, but I didn’t mind too much as I was replacing the radio with a Sony unit.

Relay for heated rear window burn out. Not too happy as I think the fuse should have blown first!!! €80 to replace it from dealer as it’s a "special relay" with a timer.

Replaced front brake discs as one had warped. But with 135000 on the clock I think it was time to change them anyway!

Standard battery not powerful enough on cold mornings to start it, fitted high amp battery to fix it.

Has a few small rattles in the dash.

General Comments:

I love the car. It's a great car for long journeys and has plenty of room for my friends and all there luggage.

1.9td is very good on the open road or motorway, but thirsty in the traffic.

Much better car than the 306.

Faults:

Temperature gauge seems to read low and local dealer seems unable to sort the problem.

General Comments:

Economy is out of this world. The car returns 48-55 mpg despite being driven extremely hard all the time.

Faults:

The rear wheel bearings have been replaced twice.

The front disks (never needed the pads changed!) replaced three times. The second set lasted less than 100 miles.

I got through Nine (9) engine management units.

The windscreen fell out.

The engine ran roughly about 50% of the time, it would either not idle at all or idle somewhere between 2000-3000 rpm. Three dealers could not fix this.

General Comments:

This was, for me an expensive car and it has been a very expensive disaster.

It is impossible to maintain this thing yourself, even something as simple as changing a wheel bearing requires the resources of a main dealer.

The car was comfortable.

The paint finish was poor and no touch up paint was available from the dealers.

The biggest problem was the dealers, I tried more than one. They attempted to charge me £200.00 (two hundred) pounds for engine oil, the first MOT bill was over £800.00. I was, from the very first day treated with contempt.

For a 1.8 saloon the acceleration is poor.

Faults:

New disc's due to wobbling under braking, this tends to be a common 406 fault, so don't be worried.

Clutch cylinders and hose due to the hose leaking. This comes as an expensive sealed unit (£165).

Handbrake cable.

Rear shoes (the car has rear disc's and shoes). These were £135 just for the shoes, so beware of ridiculous part prices.

General Comments:

The car now has almost 150,000 motorway miles and drives beautifully.

Everyone comments on how comfortable it is when they travel in it.

Lost of passenger and boot space (it's a saloon)

The fact the car is still selling with very little changes says it all over other manufacturers.

The 2.1 isn't very economical around town, but will go forever of the motorway. That's what the car and engine was designed for. It is very fast for a diesel though.
