Faults:

Petrol filter had a block.

Front right tire lost tyre pressure at a very fast rate.

Speedometer wavers at < 30mph.

General Comments:

This is my first car and I find it a very good buy.

It's got good visibility, driving position and dashboard layout.

For an automatic it is very quick and compares well with manual cars. This helps a lot in intersections and roundabouts (a unique UK feature!) where you need to move away fast.

Having RT trim does help in terms of comfort as the seats are very comfortable.

Though it is a small car, it is quite spacious. I have a toddler and I'm able to pack her stuff like push chair and other accessories easily.

Would recommend it to a first time buyer. Especially if it comes with a low mileage.

Faults:

Large split in exhaust 47,000 miles.

Gear knob comes of in hand when changing gear(!)

Brake disc's worn at 53,000 miles.

General Comments:

Despite the trouble I've had with my Clio, I've become rather fond of it.

I bought my Clio expecting very little from it (in terms of performance and driver involvement) but I was pleasantly surprised by the car. I believe the Mk 1 Clio is the best looking of the other small engined superminis produced around the same time (such as the 106, AX, Corsa and the Mk 3 Fiesta).

I fitted the new 15 inch Renault Sport Alloy wheels to the car and they make a great difference to the car's looks, without affecting the performance.

The exterior needs little modification to look attractive, but the interior is very bland and basic to say the least! The cabin is Grey and dated. The seats are very comfy though!

The car is quicker than the listed times for its 0-60 and top speed. The car excels when pushed hard, and overtaking is no trouble as long as you drop down a gear!

If you are buying a small engined used car, then buy a Clio. You will be pleasantly surprised.

Faults:

My timing belt snapped well below the recommended replacement date, resulting in a hell of a lot of damage to my engine.

General Comments:

This car is a great little mover.

However beware of timing belt replacement recommendations.

Faults:

Very little has gone wrong. The bulb illuminating the hazard warning light is temperamental, but whole switch needs replacing to correct and is not covered by the warrenty.

There is a faint clonk from the front o/s suspension but dealer could not trace it.

Has occasionally cut out at idle for no apparent reason.

Speedo needle wavers at < 30mph.

General Comments:

This is the clutchless manual model, with a 5 speed gearbox and no clutch pedal. Far better than trying to put up with a small auto, although people who drive it for the first time tend to stamp on the brakes (looking for the clutch) when they change gear.

Paintwork on the back panel on the inside of the boot is easily damaged.

Car is not quick.

Automatic clutch can occasionally be confused, and makes gear changes at higher rpm not very smooth.

Performance and economy both improved dramatically after a service.

70mph cruise can be difficult to maintain without constant gearchanging for hills, but 80mph is easier.

Washer fluid bottle is too small, especially when it supplies both the front and rear washers.

Don't loose a key as they include the plipper for the alarm and cost around 100ukp.

The immobilisor is a pain as it activates 30 seconds after opening the car, which is not enough time to load shopping. Easiest solution is to start the car immediately and then pack it.

General Comments:

Very good, affordable small car. Good after-sales service.
