Faults:
I passed my test 6th Jan 06. I had my first Clio by Feb 06, but had to get rid of it by October...
I had trouble starting in the morning. It would cut out, then would lose all power and judder..
I took it to my mates garage, where he had a guy who used to work for Renault. He said it could be the gearbox oil pressure? If it's not that, then you're on for a new gearbox...
The auto gear box costs more than the car's worth. This was a T reg Clio, so I traded it in at a Clio garage, got full book price, and got a new 03 plate Clio..
The day I picked it up, I drove round for about 2 hours, then the horn stopped working and the radio stopped working correctly. I worked out the radio was just a fuse. I took it back to Renault and they fixed the horn free of charge.. damn right they should have...
However now today I got a weird creaking noise in traffic from the steering? Although that seems to have stopped now, plus on the motorway my emissions light comes on... anyone got any ideas?
Also to people who have trouble starting with low revs in the morning, I still have this trouble in my new one. However, if you just let it warm up a bit, don't move straight away, and rev it for a bit, that should sort out your troubles for the day (not ideal, but worth it if it saves it cutting out)
General Comments:
Other than these problems, it's a lovely car.
Lovely seats, well comfy, nice drive, and pretty nippy for a 1.4. The new one handles lot nicer than the old one.
It's just the reliability...

In contrast to this user I have had few problems with my 54 plate 1.5dCi (65). Acquired at 56k now at 72k. The fuse for the cigarette socket has blown a couple of times, although this may be due to the devices I use in it. The CD player plays up occasionally and I suspect will need to be replaced eventually. Fuel economy is amazing... best I have got is 87 mpg over a 40 mile journey. Averages 67 mpg in summer, but seems to drop closer to 60 mpg in cold weather. Even driving quite heavily I get mid 50's. At £35 per year tax, I can't complain. Biggest problem I have encountered is poor luck in needing brake pads and discs, service, cambelt and tyres at the same time. Mine is an Extreme3 which gives excellent value for the extra equipment. The boot space is massive for a city car.
