1984 Renault Fuego GTX 2.0 petrol
Summary:
A low cost, economical, unique car
Faults:
The major things that I have had to do to the car are:
Front shock absorbers.
Rear shock absorbers.
Wheel bearings.
New engine management computer.
New front brake disc's.
New drive shafts.
Various ball-joints.
Various bushes.
Rear wheel brake cylinder.
Full-length sunroof mechanical parts.
General Comments:
I owned and driven lots of cars and the Fuego has to be the best car ever!
It's comfortable.
Handle's exceptionally well in all conditions.
The downside is the rust problems that seem to attack all Renault's of this age. The bodywork and underside are now starting to suffer although I am having new panel's and some welding done.
The automatic box was replaced by the previous owner and has given me no trouble at all although frequent oil changes are vital for these!
I've also used it for towing, including towing a Renault 11 250 miles and it was faultless. I do have the gearbox oil cooler kit fitted.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

You have got to be kidding! All that mechanical work needed to be done, add in the rusting problems, all before the car hit 115,000 miles and you claim that you "owned and driven lots of cars and the Fuego has to be the best car ever!" I feel real sorry for you, pal. I have a 1989 Honda Accord that I purchased when new and now has about 186,000 miles. I've replaced the alternator. Now THAT may qualify for the best car ever!
