2011 Renault Grand Scenic Dynamique Tom Tom petrol

Loved the car with no faults in the first two years. 4 year life for wiper motors is not good

Where do I start?

Dash board problems, seat belt alarms going off constantly.

Handbrake warning light constantly lighting. Has been checked with no fault.

Just had an MOT fail on a wiper fault. The car has now been in the garage for 5 days with a quote of £500+. Wipers stop half way on windscreen, can be reset during engine shut down, but only correct their position occasionally. Not a wiper arm fault; the garage has quoted for two new motors, which are clearly working. Does anyone know how to correct this fault? Can the spindle from the motors be renewed, or can this be caused by an electronic fault. I don`t believe this is a motor fault, and I'm worried at being charged these extortionate prices for motors. I cannot get my vehicle back without an MOT, so it's lying in the garage until the problem is sorted. Without being disrespectful to the mechanic, I feel they are grasping at straws.

2005 Renault Grand Scenic Expression 1.6

Summary:

Disappointed, expensive, unreliable, and would not recommend

Faults:

Ignition coils went within 2 weeks of owning.

Track rod ends replaced at same time.

Dash display replaced due to fault resetting display every 2 minutes, before eventually giving up at 45k miles.

Brake discs needed replacing at 45k miles.

O/S rear window motor went at 50K miles.

N/S front window motor went at 52k miles.

Hand brake cable needed replacing at 52k miles.

Blower intermittent at 57k miles.

General Comments:

Once you buy it, you will need a bank balance of more than the value of the car. Very, very expensive to maintain.

My 1.6 model is seriously under powered compared to the diesel models.

The two seats at the back are too small for an adult, and even a child struggles for leg room.

When rear seats are in use, a double pushchair will not fit in the vehicle.

2005 Renault Grand Scenic Dynamique 1.6

Summary:

Good, reliable, cheap all rounder

Faults:

Coil pack failed at 55k; a common fault with most cars.

Hand brake cable failed at 59k, which meant we had to replace the whole electric hand brake at a cost of £550.

Digital instrument panel went blank at 60k. Dealer replaced at a reduced cost of £150.

General Comments:

We've owned this car for almost 3 years now, purchased second hand from an auction as a repo. Apart from the recent hand brake and digital dash failure, we have had trouble free motoring.

I know some of these cars come with their problems, but if you can get a good one, they represent fantastic value for money.

Our next one will be the new shape diesel, as the 1.6 petrol is a little heavy on fuel; we only seem to manage 31 MPG round town, and 36 MPG on long runs.

If you shop around, you can get a year old model for half the original list price, so it's worth considering the new Scenic rather than similar brands.

2003 Renault Grand Scenic Dynamique 1.6

Expensive if it goes wrong

Where can I start???

The digital dash went on my car in Feb 2011. Had that replaced, and have had nothing but problems since.

The car failed to start for me about 2 weeks ago; when it finally started after leaving it overnight, the dash had gone off again! Back to the dealer, who diagnosed a faulty radio (??) causing the fuses to blow, which cost me £108 for them to disconnect it!

It now needs a new dephaser pulley and timing belt, which is going to cost in the region of about £900 to fix!!! I am a student nurse, and just cannot afford to keep paying out for these huge amounts! As soon as I can afford to get this fixed, I am getting rid of this car, and I will never ever buy another Renault!

General Comments:

Nice, comfortable family car.

Shame it has so many expensive problems.

Hi. My Renault Scenic dash went crazy, so my mechanic said it would be expensive to find the problem. Worried, I called Renault to get a quote to compare, and was told there is a call back on it, so the total cost was only £100. Always check with main dealer first, because they can be cheaper than local garages, and more honest.

Renault only charged you £100 for this fault as they paid for the entire dashboard themselves, and the dealer charged you for the labour to fit it.

Renault have realised the dashboards on these cars go wrong too often, so do this as a "goodwill gesture", while not admitting fault and paying for the whole thing ::rolleyes::

They have recently raised the price to £150, which was just in time to catch me out. :-(

Your local mechanic was not being dishonest, they would have had to buy the dashboard and the whole job would have cost around £600, and they won't always know that the manufacturer has got a deal like this going on.
