2001 Renault Megane Coupe Dymanic Plus 1.4 16v Sport

Summary:

Superb piece of Machinery unbelievable performance

Faults:

Faulty CD Changer which is being replaced this week and car pulling to the left due to poor tyres New tyres being fitted this week.

General Comments:

This is a fantastic car and great value for money. You get all the toys that you would expect from a sports car and comfort and trim are at a high standard. The car holds the road superbly and brakes as good as it accelerates. One average she is doing between 45 and 50 mpg and for a 1.4 I have had her at 123Mph. I would recomend this car to anyone. An total stunner inside and out visual and mechanical.

123mph come on mate!This is a 1400cc right?

Does sound very high, but a friend of mine has stated that his Megane 1.4 Coupe can do 120mph?

The question is, was that speed taken going downhill...

Hmmmmm.

Regards.

Mike.

Meganes 1.4 has 95bhp, which is more than you would expect, I can see.

I Have 1.6, which has 110bhp and goes 195km/h (I have tried).

And like first writer, I have only good things to say about this car. It will be hard to find good replacement for it in two years time. Especially comparing it's mileage and performance.

I have a 1.6 16v Megane Coupe, no problems at all, quiet, sporty, good looker and goes some.

I have a 2.0 litre Dynamique + and have to say it is the best car I a have ever owned.. I have only had the car for 5 months, but it is amazing...

Unbelievably quick and the heads turn when drivin down town..

I have the 2 litre IDE version, which seems to be quite rare. IDE apparently stands for 'injection direct essence' (well it is French), which means it is a direct petrol injection system.

It has a great engine, my only complaint being that it has little torque low down in the rev range, but this is compensated for by extremely good fuel economy - 40-45 MPG is usual, even when driven enthusiastically.

The car is well equipped, and running costs are low compared with other cars of similar performance I have driven.

The quality of the paintwork is particularly good - mine is over three years old, but with regular washing it still looks brand new.

No real mechanical problems yet.

Yip it is Possible to do round the 120mph mark in the 1.4 I have had my meg dyna at this speed!! so 123mph doesn't seem out the question.

And strangley only feels as if your doing 70mph??? car still rides super.

I can believe 123 MPH out of a 1.4i 16v Megane I own a 1.6i 16v Scenic and I have seen 128 MPH on the speedo. 131 down hill.

I got 125 mph out of my old 97 Rover 214 :)

2001 Renault Megane Coupe 1.4 16v

Summary:

Nice looks, shame about the quality control

Faults:

The wheels need balancing continously.

There is (according to the Renault dealer) an unrepairable fault with the clutch pedal.

The seats wear very badly.

In general the build quality is poor.

General Comments:

After 12 separate visits to the Renault dealer the clutch pedal continues to make grating/creaking sounds everytime it is used!!

2001 Renault Megane Fidji 1.4 16v

Summary:

All round good package

Faults:

On collection of the car from the dealership, the wrong specification alloy wheels were fitted.

Paint defects on various parts of the car, including the bonnet which had to be re-sprayed.

High level brake light is not bright.

Car had been driven through wet tar prior to collection and was covered along the passenger side.

Tar footprints in the driver's footwell.

Front mats securing clips not fitted. Clips were later found in a plastic bag in the driver's door pocket.

General Comments:

This particular model of the Megane has lots of toys for the money. Cannot fault the car with regards to performance or driver appeal. The little faults highlighted above cannot be attributed as faults against the car, but rather a sign of poor pre-delivery inspection.

The car was purchased from Glenvarigill Renault dealership in Scotland which should have a good reputation. However this particular franchise is totally incompetent in sorting things out. They have had the car 3 times to rectify the above "faults" and it is still not fixed. Their mechanics could not resolve the high level brake problem saying there was nothing wrong with it. However upon inspection by myself found that the bulb was not located in its holder.

Apart from these initial problems, the car itself is a good buy and certainly great value for money.

I'm glad that someone is happy with their Fidji.

I have waited over 11 weeks for mine and it has been delayed three times. As a result, I have cancelled my order as I'm not prepared to wait another two weeks!

To the guy who cancelled their order. If you are still interested in a Fidji Glenvarigill, St Andrews in Fife has 2 in their showroom. One is Metallic Green, the other Metallic Blue - The Metallic Green one has my "old" alloys on it - (see previous entry for the story).

2001 Renault Megane Coupe Expression 1.6 16v

Summary:

Good looks, good value and fun to drive

Faults:

Nothing so far.

General Comments:

This car looks great and handles well.

The interior is a little uninspiring. The white dials are a nice detail though.

2001 Renault Megane Classic Expression+ 1.6 16v

Summary:

Well-specified mid-range car

Faults:

Delivered with a loose interior light.

As with the Clio and Laguna, the center air vents do not maintain the same temperature as the rest unless the fan is at medium or high. Below this the driver gets a cold draught. This is a design fault Renault are reluctant to acknowledge.

General Comments:

I miss the ease of hill climbing and cruising of a 1.9 engine.

The Classic (saloon) version gives a better ride than the hatch-back.

Having to guess when the screen washer reservoir needs topping up is plain silly.

Handles well and is comfortable to drive.
