Faults:

Clutch failed, probably the most expensive thing to fix. Air con never worked since I bought the car. Electric windows worked when they felt like it. Also seemed to blow bulbs often; auto electrician had a look but couldn't find anything wrong. In his own words "It's just Renault electronics".

I looked after it well - the car was serviced annually. Went through the usual consumables - brakes, suspension, exhaust, and so on. Got whatever it needed replaced. Repairs were reasonable on cost.

General Comments:

Megane is a very comfortable car and nice to drive, but those honestly are about the only positives.

1.6 was nippy and economical, interior had nice seats. "Dynamique" was a fairly middling spec but had enough electric toys for me.

The car was smooth and good looking in dark blue with alloys. I liked the look of it better than most other family cars of the time.

It was a decent car for me and I scrapped it just last year. I suppose at 14 years old and almost 130K on it, that was good going for a Renault from this time period. Usually they get a bad rep for reliability; mines had its share of problems, but honestly was no worse than any other car I have ever had.
