2007 Renault Modus Dynamique S 1.2 T100

Summary:

The zesty great all rounder

Faults:

This car is too new at this time, but will comment on the car later 6 months ish.

General Comments:

The zesty Modus is great for comfort and feel with half leather trim.

I picked black pearl; it suits the car very well.

The 100bhp turbo likes to torment cars that have daft joyriders who have to prove themselves.

Although it's nippy, it does 38+ mpg and is very easy to park.

2006 Renault Modus Dynamique 1.6

Summary:

This car is dangerous

Faults:

Problem with automatic transmission that dealer can’t seem to find fault.

Random service warnings appear on dashboard display.

Rear light lenses fogged up.

Remote radio control stuck.

General Comments:

I have had the car over a year now from new, and I was more or less pleased with it until last week. I was driving on the slip road about to join the motorway, when all of a sudden the car made a loud bang and the car came to a quick and immediate stop. The car behind almost crashed into the back of my car, but luckily the driver was able to avoid hitting me. It was a very scary experience. The car was immediately towed to Renault, where they said they couldn’t find a fault with the transmission. However I still get a warning message on the dashboard that’s say’s “Check Gearbox”. I am no longer confident in driving this car, yes it does have a five star safety rating, one of the reasons why I got it, but I don’t want to be putting that to the test. I have lost all confidence in Renault, their products and their dealers.

What a shame. These cars are supposed to be resurrecting the reputation of Renault. It sounds like the gearbox seized momentarily although I find this hard to imagine from a technical angle.

I have had the car just over 2 years now and have just paid nearly a thousand euro to fix the suspension!!!

2004 Renault Modus 1.6 16v

Summary:

Needs some refinements

Faults:

Wipers would not turn off in first few days.

One of the coils failed and had to be repaired by the AA.

Ignition switch very stiff - needed replacing.

General Comments:

Very responsive and light steering.

Starting off is difficult as the engine races at first gear, making it very jumpy.

Airy cabin with excellent visibility and light.

Recently, power has been poor in first and second gears on hills and bends.

Air conditioning not as good as previous Scenic.

In order to fold rear seats flat, the front seats have to be moved forward making driving impossible!

High aerial at rear scrapes on garage door every time. Need shorter aerial.

2005 Renault Modus Dynamique 1.5 turbo diesel

Summary:

Small wonder

Faults:

There have been no problems so far, but it's only done 4000 miles. Our previous Laguna was extremely reliable, so I'm confident everything will be OK.

General Comments:

We didn't need a car the size of the Laguna so downsized. The Modus is very spacious inside, but the boot is a bit small.

DCi engine is very quiet and economical. 60 mpg is easily achieved. The whole car has a well-built feel to it, more solid feeling than the Laguna. It cruises nicely on the motorway as well.

The styling is an acquired taste, but it does grow on you. We like the Modus, it's a big little car.
