2004 Renault Scenic Expression 1.5 dCi turbo diesel

Summary:

The most expensive, comfortable and useless car I have ever owned

Faults:

Battery died within 3 months of purchasing car, Renault tried to charge £98 for a new battery, but they would fit if for free. I refused to pay for the battery and they relented.

At the same time, the car was in for the new battery, they fitted a new glow plug and charged £21.00 for the glow plug, and £53 to fit it.

Alternator disintegrated within 3 months of purchasing the car.

Front passenger window mechanism failed, window wouldn't stay up.

Central locking failed, also needed a new key card at the same time as one failed.

The best one was the automatic handbrake started to come on when I was driving; Renault couldn't find a fault. I had to pay them £670 for a new handbrake, then less than a year later, I get a recall letter about the handbrake, so I tried for a refund of my £670, but for some strange reason the recall was for a different handbrake problem, even though it was described as being for the same problem my handbrake had!

The newest problem (s) happened only today, the car lost power when changing up a gear, then the engine management light, service light and a warning message stating CHECK EMISSIONS, all popped up on the dashboard at the same time, I haven't had this checked at at garage yet 'cause it is Sunday, but it could cost the usual arm and a leg to fix.

General Comments:

This car is very comfortable and roomy.

When it is running okay, it is great, but there is always a little niggle in the back of my mind that makes me think it might not get me from A to B.

Further reports on my 2004 Scenic with the automatic gear box. Requested by Renault to return it to main dealer for indefinite period for investigation, returned it after six hours: unable to assess problems, possibly elecctrical fault no solution as yet. Renaults possible diagnosis in five months consist of its the gear box, then the torque converter, electrical problem, tyres flat.

2004 Renault Scenic Dynamique 2.0L turbo 165 BHP

Summary:

Hot MPV

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Well what can I say other than fantastic comfort with speed too. 0-60 MPH in 8.5 Seconds and a top speed of 127 MPH need I say more for an MPV. Good amount of equipment levels too.

It is great fun Burning off boy racers in their cars from the traffic lights and I can see their look on their faces as I speed away. I'd say it isn't far off the 197 BHP Zaferia Turbo. Can beat any 1.6L hot hatch you throw at it apart from the Saxo VTS, but makes mince meat of the Saxo VTR. Fully loaded it can still get to 60 mph in around 10 seconds. Raced a Peugeot 206 GTI HDI killed it. Raced a saxo VTR Killed it. Raced a Ford Focus 2.0L Killed it. the list can go on.

Insise the cabin quality is very good the dashboard looks well put together and there CD Player is a joy to use.

I have a 2.0 16v 140bhp Scenic and it's faster than the Saxo vts.

And to the other comment, boy racers trying to show off to their mates shouldn't think of MPV's as easy targets.

Thank you to the second comment I had a 1.6i 16v Renault Scenic 2001 before hand and that was nippy. MPV's are quicker than some people think. I surprised my mates by how nippy my old 1.6i 16V was.

Renault Scenic purchased through the motability scheme on July 30 2004. Problems reported in first week.Brakes not consistant too keen then hardly no brake, Air condition was noisy and the automatic gear box is noisy and vibrates through out the car at 22 mph. Air condition unit and drive belt replaced, brakes are still not consistant after six visits to dealer, new gear box fitted the results just as before dealer and independent garage both confirm it is in the gear box.

Renault tell me it is characteristic of this gear box to make an awful noise, I ask the question why was I not told of this on purchase or why is it not in the brochure. the final comment this is my third scenic and it is a pleasure to drive.
