Faults:

Drive shaft bent.

Battery failed due to an alternator fault.

Alternator fried the battery.

Binding brakes.

Rotten exhaust.

Immobiliser keeps locking me out!.

Clutch release bearing started squealing at 50000.

Engine mounts failed.

Paint crap. Rusting badly in places.

Sounds like a diesel at tickover!.

Gearbox vague, synchro on 1st random.

Wiring loom rotting at connectors.

Boot leaks.

General Comments:

Poor build quality.

Rover dealers useless.

Only saving grace is that it flies for its engine capacity!. Can embarrass GTi types when worked hard.

Fuel consumption varies wildly.

Good heater.

I'd like to build a kit car with the engine, for it truly is the best part of it.

Faults:

I had to replace the head gasket at 72,000 miles due to oil leakage from the bottom right hand corner of the head.

General Comments:

The car is fully loaded, uprated turbo and ECU. It has a full stainless exhaust, with the cat removed it performs well as I have also fitted a competition induction and engine breather system.

It currently is running at 270 bhp at the wheels. I have also fitted competition front brakes as theese have turned out to be a worthwhile investment. Top speed is about 165mph, 0-60 in 4.8 on the dot.

Faults:

Nothing at all, incredible for a car with 118,000 on the clock. Slightly noisier than when I got it, f/tyres beginning to wear unevenly.

General Comments:

I've done almost 70,000 miles in this car and I can't fault it. It's never let me down and I've driven it pretty hard. It's very comfortable and I've struggled to find another car which is as nice inside. Performs well and is pleasing to drive. I'm swapping it for a BMW (pay rise), but I'm only getting £1200 for it, so it seems to me an excellent secondhand family car for the money. I'd recommend it.

Faults:

Corroded oil pressure sensor.

Judders after splashing through puddles.

Drivers seat reclines itself every few weeks.

60k - Leaking sump gasket.

75k - Remote central locking sticks on drivers door.

78k - Rust appearing on drivers side trim and door.

General Comments:

Overall a good car, with good performance in all gears and at all speeds.

Is comfortable and enjoyable to drive.

Features include: power steering, electric front windows, sunroof and mirrors. Heated mirrors.

But the free Rover/Philips stereo was crap.

Faults:

New front discs with pads needed after 32,000 and then at 60,000. Wrong ones fitted at 32k by used car dealer (special discs needed on TD model).

Wears front tyres every 16k but I go round corners a little fast.

General Comments:

Constantly gives 40 - 45 mpg even though I always boot the car. If I drove more sensibly it gives me 45-55 mpg. The 0-60 time isn't very good but in-gear acceleration is very good. Top speed is indicated on speedo as 115mph. Cabin is better in black. Higher models better spec with electric windows/sunroof, heated and electric mirrors, remote central locking.
