1995 Rover - Austin 600 623 iS 2.3i
Summary:
Still a lot of reliable car for the money
Faults:
Absolutely nothing so far. (touch wood)
General Comments:
In general a great car for the money, especially as this one had a full rover service history. Body and interior were both virtually immaculate even after so many miles. People talk about the good performance of the 2.3 Honda engine and at higher revs and speeds this is perhaps the case, but at the lower end I think it's a bit sluggish even compared with cars with much smaller engines. I must say I do not like the gearbox and clutch. Clutch travel distance from floor to biting point is unnecessarily huge, the gearstick does not move quickly and the gear-knob is uncomfortably shaped and there is a strange clicking noise when changing gear. All this means it's very difficult to change gear quickly which severely compromises being able to pull away quickly. Changing gear becomes almost a chore rather than a pleasure and if that's the case you may as well have an auto! Other than that in most respects it's a great car. Oh steering can be a bit squishy sometimes too. Not really a car for winding country roads.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

I have a TI that has just reached 80k, I too have had the bushes replaced and I think bearings may be needed in the near future... how much did this cost? If anyone knows please feel free to drop me an email corm@f2s.com.
