1993 Rover - Austin 800 820Si 2.0 petrol

Summary:

Luxury tourer for family trips

Faults:

Heater not working.

Handbrake not working.

Leak at header tank unit.

115000 miles on clock, but solid and clean, new tyres, MOT until 2004.

General Comments:

Considering I bought this car at auction for £275.00, I knew that some work would have to be done.

This Rover is a big beasty and because of its size, many people tend to go for smaller cars.

This is like driving a settee from a leather suite, and is great for comfort and leg room.

I have 376,000 miles on my '93 820Si, nothing has ever gone wrong (apart from worn tyres and had the exhaust replaced). Bought it for £900 4 years ago with 117,000 miles on. It is the most comfortable car I have ever owned. Unfortunately someone came into the side of it at a roundabout and it has been written off. Hope to get another one, but newer, maybe '98 mileage is no issue though!!

I have a Rover 820 Si, and it goes like a dream. The power delivery on the accelerator is fantastic. It has just been diagnosed with ABS pump problems, but still is a beautiful car.

1993 Rover - Austin 800 820 Vitesse 2.0 turbo

Summary:

Teaches the boy racers a BIG lesson!

Faults:

None.

General Comments:

I bought the car very cheap off a mate and it is in mint condition.

It is extremely quick for the size of the car, however this is reflected at the pumps.

It is very comfortable to drive, very responsive and handles brilliantly.

The boot is huge and there is LOADS of room in the back. For what I paid you could pay a hundred times more at a dealer for a new model!

1993 Rover - Austin 800 Si 2.0

Summary:

Reliable, bargain luxury car with no image

Faults:

Head gasket at 100k.

Front disks worn out at 120k.

Rear brake caliper at 120k.

ABS light on for the last 19k miles!

General Comments:

Electric windows don't like wet weather - but still work - try bending the upper half of the door if they stick!

Quiet and economical. I got 44mpg at 80 mpg on the motorway the month I bought it.

It's quick and quiet. Burns off Darrens and Waynes easily. Head, cams and valves still in good condition at 120k miles, and I'm not gentle with it.

Tyres last 30k miles.

Ride is a good compromise between motorway comfort and cornering ability. Double wishbone front suspension is good. You can chuck them into corners with ease. I love roundabouts!

1993 Rover - Austin 800 820 Vitesse 2.0 Turbo

Summary:

Absolutely stunning, fantastic, incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Faults:

Just general wear and tear. Only big things really were that I had to replace the Turbo due to a Wastegate problem and gear box bearings. All have not been cheap but worth every penny!!

General Comments:

AWESOME.

Mine's black and gets brilliant attention as you drive down the street. It's fast, refined, very sporty looking. Great Recaro interior. I'm only 19 and I love it to bits!!!!! It can beat every boy racer!

To be fair this car goes at a reasonable speed, but the only problem I have is that it does not have much street cred. The colour is exceptional, it is a silvery-blue. It has a two litre engine and always gets noticed because of my massive subs in the boot. I'm 18 and this car is a sex machine, and believe me I've had some fun times crusin!!!!!!

You should try to have a go of a 2.7 litre model... and hold on tight!!!!!!

15th Jan 2001, 13:38

Don't worry about trying a 2.7 out, they're fast too, but a Turbo with boost upped to 12 PSI will beat any other Rover 800. The only problems with over boosting are traction, and gearbox reliability; I've eaten 2 in 5 months!!!

Go to http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/rover800/ for more info on tuning and websites on Rover 800's etc...

Are you guys serious??

How can you afford to insure such a car?

Or maybe you don't have insurance?? ;)

I'm 19 and if I thought I could get close to insuring one I would get one straight away, even though they lack cred!

Who cares about cred - nobody can see you cos your're going too fast!!

Great cars.

My mate has a 820 vittesse turbo, buying it from him £100 he`s fitted a stainless steal exhaust from cat back, and a big fat induction kit and it sound awesome.

Got 147mph out off it, but still sound and fills so smooth.
