1999 SAAB 9-3 2.0t SE Convertible 2.0 low pressure turbo

Summary:

It would be great if the Japanese built it

Faults:

Lots of plastic trim replaced because it turned from black to grey.

Gearbox rebuilt because of bearing noise.

New gearbox fitted because of noise.

New reverse gear fitted because of noise when engaging.

Engine sub frame bolts tightened twice because of clonk when pulling away.

Wrinkled hood around rear window was normal according to dealer.

Plastic cover for hood frame replaced because return spring broke.

Windscreen seal replaced.

Seat base replaced twice because seat belt marked it.

Drivers door mounting brackets re-welded to stop creaking.

General Comments:

This is a boulevard cruiser; if you hit bumps, it shakes and twists.

You look really good with the hood down.

The low-pressure turbo goes well enough not to embarrass you at the lights.

You can't sit women (or men) with long hair in the back because the wind will whip them to death.

If your local police force uses video cameras for speed traps, it's so dark inside with the hood up that the driver is unrecognisable.

How would you not expect hair to be whipped around in a convertible? Quit complaining and enjoy life!

So...why are you smiling at the camera when the picture is of the license plate...duh?

1999 SAAB 9-3 Convertible 2.0 LPT

Summary:

A fast cruiser

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This car is quick. The turbo really helps with acceleration and the engine is great for high speed cruising.

The cabin has enough room for four adults to be seated in comfort.

Wind can be a problem at high speed and I would recommend the wind shield for long distance cruising.

The car does suffer from some scuttle shake (as do all convertibles), but it is worse in the Saab than in the latest 3 Series BMW convertible.

1999 SAAB 9-3 LPT Convertible 2.0 Eco

Summary:

A great four-seat convertible cruiser

Faults:

Not a single thing.

General Comments:

Fantastic car; reliable, comfortable, fun in the sun, safe, clean.

It does not quite rate as a sports car (although it's not too bad if you hussle it along), but it makes up for it in relaxed top down cruising.

1999 SAAB 9-3 2.0i Convertible 2.0i

Summary:

A classy, practical convertible, fit for all seasons

Faults:

Nothing apart from a squeak from the passenger seat, which was fixed at the time of servicing.

General Comments:

The car is lovely, it was brought as an import, last year. It's a real eye catcher, but is useful and practical too, unlike most convertibles which have no rear seats, or a shoe box for a boot.

1999 SAAB 9-3 SE Turbo Convertible 2.0

Summary:

Definitely for cruising on sunny days

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

Cracking 185bhp allows for very safe overtaking anywhere over 50mph - comfort and safety on the motorway making long journeys a pleasure.

Soft suspension makes for wallowing on country roads but the whir of the turbo brings a grin to your face everytime.

Deceptively big boot space, ample for weekend kit plus golf clubs.

1999 SAAB 9-3 SE 2.0

Faults:

The alarm horn short circuited within a few weeks, and I still get random messages on the computer saying 'service theft alarm'. It needed 2 new shocks at the back to 'cure' a clonking from the rear.... it didn't and it still clonks like something is loose.

General Comments:

Generally OK, disappointed with performance, particularly with the climate control on and I don't think the build quality is all it's cracked up to be. I like the car's character and I don't think there is another car in the world with such comfortable seats.

1999 SAAB 9-3 SE LPT Convertible 2.0

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

Beautiful car, very comfortable and nice to drive. I previously owned the 900SE Convertible, which was also absolutely trouble free, but the 9-3 has many small improvements, and a welcome increase of power in the mid range.

1999 SAAB 9-3 SE Convertible lpt 2.0

Faults:

Virually nothing. Actually nothing at all so far.

General Comments:

Being a convertible it's a bit prone to vibration on braking or on rough roads but a very smooth car otherwise. Excellent seating, dash (including a night setting which switches off everything bar the speedo), climate control system & security system.
