1997 Seat Cordoba S 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Strong in most areas - especially value for money

Faults:

Ignition failed at 50,000 miles.

Brake pads needed replacing at 59,000 miles, again at 66,000 miles and finally at 70,000 miles.

Driver's window motor failed at 63,000 miles.

Air conditioning failed at 67,000 miles.

General Comments:

Apart from a handful of electrical faults, the Cordoba was a very reliable car.

Its interior space and comfort were a bit disappointing for a Focus sized car.

1.6 engine gave brilliant performance and this was matched by an impressive chassis.

A bargain buy at £3,000 for a five year old family saloon.

Let it go for £1,000 three years later.

1997 Seat Cordoba SE 1.6

Summary:

Prestige, performance and you pay less!

Faults:

There was only one minor problem, the rear door pins are weak and break easily.

General Comments:

The Cordoba is great! When looking for a new car it stood out, it was unmissable (Ferrari red.) It is a very economic car considering the fantastic sporty body and interior. Not to mention the awesome acceleration on the motorway, out performed a BMW 518. This car is so unusual in Britain and really turns heads! Thanks Seat.

It's called Tornado Red.

1997 Seat Cordoba SE 1.4

Summary:

An underrated, economical, well built bargain

Faults:

Slow puncture to rear nearside type, possibly due to hitting kerb.

Drivers door has dropped slightly, due to play in hinge, causing it to chaff on pillar.

General Comments:

The most reliable car I have ever owned.

Fuel consumption never drops below 46MPG. Averages 48MPG with 50-51MPG on a run.

Comfortable and roomy, especially the boot which is enormous.

Great handling.

Great stereo.

1997 Seat Cordoba SE 1.6i 8v

Faults:

Back box vibrated, however dealer fitted new one under warranty. The front bumper screws keep coming out.

General Comments:

The car has served me well and should continue to do so. The tank could be bigger. The radio has an annoying feature by which it switches off the back speakers if the volume is too loud. The radio also seems to get very hot.

1997 Seat Cordoba SE 1.4

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

Had the car 6 months now and it is going very well. A little underpowered and can be hard on petrol. All in all a very good value package. Excellent radio.

1997 Seat Cordoba SXE 1.6 petrol

Faults:

Just bought, so to early to say, although doors sound as though they don't make as good a contact as they should (a little bit of noise from the seals).

General Comments:

Had put in an order for a new Ibiza - after waiting 3 months and what would seem another 3 for delivery stumped up the extra and went for the Cordoba. Best thing I ever did - great car, lovely VW 100bhp 1.6 engine, full equipment (aircon etc).

Dealer is fab - threw in CD player and kept trade - in price for old car for 3 months. Buy one and be surprised!. Petrol a little heavy if car driven fast, but you can't have it all!
