2000 Seat Leon Tdi SE 1.9 turbo diesel

Summary:

Best car I have ever owned although they are pricey now

Faults:

Rear brake light at 30000 miles.

Air flow meter at 59000 miles.

That's it!!!

General Comments:

Handles well with a very lively diesel engine.

This car has been a blessing for the past 6 years as it has been 100% reliable, exceptionally economical and very few niggles apart from rubber seals around doors coming loose and Air flow meter.

Handling is a little boat like, but on A roads holds speed well and produces just under 60 mpg.

2000 Seat Leon SE 1.9 TDi

Summary:

A perfect all rounder

Faults:

Nothing has gone wrong with this car since I bought it.

General Comments:

The performance of this car is great, lots of low range torque assisted by the turbo propels this car to a good speed quickly. It manages 115 easily, however after that it seems to struggle to get above that.

Reliability has been second to none, no problems whatsoever.

I have yet to average 50mpg, I normally get about 46-49 however it has been as low as 42.

It's a very well equipped car which feels well put together. The CD changer is excellent and the climate control is very effective. It has sports seats which hug your body well, but could be a little more comfortable.

The car handles well and can dash round corners at a surprising rate, the brakes are sharp and stop the car very effectively.

It has plenty of space inside and the boot is a decent size. However you might find storage space limited if you have the CD changer fitted.

It's very cheap to run, with only group seven insurance. The servicing isn't badly priced, around £100 to £200 depending on service. However the cam belt service is due and could cost up to £400.

I do around 28000 miles per year and this car eats them up with absolute ease.

2000 Seat Leon Signo 1.6 petrol

Summary:

Overall pretty good

Faults:

I've previously owned VW Golf's and been very happy apart from the Power Steering feeling too light on the new Golf. So when I drove the Seat Leon I was pleasantly surprised as the drive felt much more 'solid' and the price/value for money was great.

Since picking up the car I've had loads of niggles, the main one being dodgy door locks which tended to seize and getting a replacement from the dealership was a nightmare. I had a problem with the setting on the carb (I think) which causes problems with over-revving (ie to 5,000 revs) when I was slowing or stationary, this was sorted OK under warranty.

I've recently had a new problem with petrol fumes in the cabin towards the rear passengers seats, this is mainly when the tank is full and in hot weather. The garage didn't know what to suggest and I'm loath to let them tinker in case they just replace the fuel tank etc using guess work. A friend lifted up the rear passenger seat to discover a hatch which can be unscrewed to show the top of the fuel tank and pump, there was a surrounding 'moat' which was full of petrol. I wondered why the garage didn't look for this straight away. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions?

2000 Seat Leon S 1.6 petrol

Summary:

A value for money car that is stylish, economical and quick

Faults:

I have only had this car 1 month. I originally thought about buying an Astra, but found the Leon cheaper with a bigger engine and a much higher spec.

Airbag warning light has remained on.

Front fog light bulb has blown and it can only be replaced by the dealer.

No leakage problems even though I have driven the car in very wet weather on several occasions and checked the door sills each time with no problems.

General Comments:

In a straight line the car is quick and it has a lot of torque at high cruising speed.

The seats are very comfortable.

The quality of the stereo has to be experienced to believe.

It is cheap to insure and is also very economical.

The car handles well.
