1992 Seat Toledo GTi 2.0 8v

Summary:

A brilliant achiever in a smart package

Faults:

The coil was burnt out from previous owners poor attempt at replacing the unit. This was immediately rectified and has since been no problem.

The exhaust back-box has developed a small hole and blows slightly, along with a worn exhaust rubber.

Also, the offside rear brake caliper has become quite sticky, locking itself on after being parked on the handbrake for long periods.

General Comments:

This car is a very capable and quick car, using a 1984cc 8v Volkswagen sourced engine. In standard spec the engine produces 115bhp, but my example had a super-chip fitted by the previous owner and has a proven 133bhp. I do not know of the standard cars performance, but my chipped example pulls with plenty of gutso past 4000rpm, and will probably achieve around 135mph.

The interior is quite basic, with Grey seats with a red checker pattern, which also feature on the door cards. Yet the instruments are clear and easy to read, and the cabin feels quite airy and light.

The front seats are comfortable and so are the back seats, with lots of legroom for all occupants. The car also features a large boot with ease of access through the rear hatchback.

The car looks quite subtle for such an achieving car, with 14" alloys and a standard body-kit.

1992 Seat Toledo CL 1.9 diesel

Summary:

Reliable low cost motoring

Faults:

Water pipe burst at 102000.

Head gasket blown at 105000.

2 replacement tyres.

General Comments:

Cannot believe how reliable this car has been. It has traveled in excess of 2000 miles per month for only the repairs shown above.

The resulting fuel savings have more than paid for the repairs.

But I do miss the gadgets!!!!
