1996 Seat Toledo SE 1.8i
Summary:
Excellent
Faults:
Clutch needs adjusted at 80,000 miles.
ABS sensor replaced.
Usual wear and tear over time I've had the car - new brakes discs, pads, new tyres, etc.
That's it.
General Comments:
Nice car, generally very reliable, apart form the problems listed above, but to be honest I don't think the previous owner looked after it to well.
Good to drive, the 1.8i petrol engine pulls better than I expect, very nippy, though a bit noisy on the motorways. Good handling too, grips the road well. Can roll a little too much in corners though, but I don't hang around!
Being the SE model it has decent spec - air con, electric windows, sunroof, ABS, twin airbags, etc. Not the most comfortable car in the world - the seats are OK, but the driving position is a little awkward - you adjust the height of the steering wheel, like in my previous cars. You get used to it though. Also the ride is not the most refined - but then again I'm used to driving bigger executive cars (Vauxhall Omega, BMW 5-series, etc.)
Great fuel economy - anything form 37 to 42 + MPG.
Overall, just a nice ordinary family car, that's a bit different form your usual family cars form Ford/Vauxhall or whatever. The 1996 Seat Toledo I have is also bulit by Volkswagen, and it shows, the quality is better than older Seat models. I think I read its just a restyled Volkswagen Jetta/Vento/Bora, and it sure looks a lot like one!
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes
