1962 Singer Vogue Mk2 1.6L
Summary:
A good reliable classic
Faults:
My radiator hose keeps splitting.
General Comments:
The car is slow, but that is to be expected of a 1960's car on its second engine, as the engine is still being run in.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

I bought a Humber Vogue in 1979 in Queensland Australia when she had 99000 miles on the clock. This car was driven by me for 10 years to 170000 miles all around Australia, and in day to day use plus two years on Bougainville island New Guinea.
Only after five years I had the engine and the gearbox reconditioned, and the upholstery redone.
The car was shipped to Queensland in 1989 where I lost track of her. Lovely to drive, very strong and very reliable, that is my memory. I often wish I could still own and drive her.

I owned from new a 1966 Singer Vogue with the 1725 cc engine. It was a wonderful solid car and I have many fond memories. I regretfully sold it in 1968 to help fund the purchase of my first house!!

Ihave fond memories of the early (Mark One) Singer Vogue as my best friend's father (a bank-manager) owned one --it was a comfortable, solid car with better (disc) brakes than the contemporary Austin A60 Cambridge. My father had a 1962 Hillman Super Minx with the same 1.6 engine, but with automatic gears as he was disabled; it served him well for 10 years and 86,000 miles, 'though the gearbox had to be replaced as it lost reverse. The steering was fairly heavy, and on cross-ply tyres, it tended to follow the camber fairly readily. I used to hope that Dad would move up to a Humber Sceptre, but he never did. I'd certainly rate the Vogue above its Cortina/Victor rivals.
