2005 Skoda Octavia 4x4 Estate 1.9 TDI
Summary:
Excellent Value and quality
Faults:
Nothing.
General Comments:
This is a company car and it had to be a diesel. I have had a Subaru Impreza 2.0 for 2 years previously and would have had another Subaru if they did a diesel engine!!!
Hence the 4x4 version of the Octavia, its fantastic, not quite as quick as the Scooby over the B roads, but it feels even better to drive when up to speed. 6 gears are good for motorways, but the MPG is a bit disappointing, suppose its the 4x4 that kills it.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

If you miss the power of the Scooby, just get the 1.9TDI engine management system chipped. Some official Skoda dealers will actually do this for you for about £400 and still honour the warranty. The car then drives as well as the 2.0TDI available in the 2wd versions, and is much better for torque than as supplied standard.
This engine was made for chipping; Seat sell an Ibiza with the same engine with a 160BHP output.
We had a Fabia vRS chipped to 150BHP by the Skoda main dealer, and it was epic! Fuel economy also improved.
I don't understand why the 4x4 car is not offered in the UK with the 2.0TDI engine, but a chipped 1.9 will give you your Scooby smiles back..! Enjoy.

I think that a little bit of detail was missed regarding this chaps previous car, he stated it was an Impreza 2.0, said nothing about it being a turbo. Having driven a 2.0 Impreza I would only describe performance as quite ordinary.

Don't buy a Skoda Octavia, it's a piece of crap. I have a 2.0 mpi 2006 Skoda Octavia - awful performance and very boring interior.

I would be very hesitant in describing ANY current model Skoda as a piece of CRAP. It is quite obvious that the writer of this epic statement has not the foggiest idea to what he (or she) is referring.

Quite.
I have done 30,000 in my old model 2003 Octavia, and my dad has done nearly 10,000 in his new one.
I've driven his, and I think it's stunning. He has the 2.0TDI 140BHP Auto with DSG.
Stunning. I need not say anymore.
Oh yeah, I love my car too.

I have an Octavia 1.9 TDI 4x4 estate, and find the fuel economy to be very good. On a run I can get 58mpg traveling at between 70-75 mpg. Fantastic car!!!

Interested to hear more about Fuel consumption - 4x4 notwithstanding would expect approx 45=47 mpg. Anyone got any more information?
