2014 Skoda Octavia SE 1.4T petrol
Summary:
Does all that I need in a car
Faults:
Turbo failed, replaced (expensive).
Air con weak, have not bothered fixing.
Brakes grinding, just needed new pads (wear and tear).
As with any car, keep these serviced on time and you should have little trouble; mine has been OK for age and mileage.
General Comments:
The Octavia has always been regarded as a dull car, but if you just want simplicity and reliability, then take a look.
My 2014 car still feels very modern. The car looks good in SE spec, alloy wheels and a nice red color which appears to be not as common as the silver / grey ones you always see around.
Inside the interior is dull and grey, but it is comfortable and very functional, all controls are intuitive and light to touch. Plenty of space also, the boot is huge. Visibility is OK for a modern car. Interior quality feeling is top notch.
The 1.4 turbo petrol engine is a bit rare as most are diesels in these Octavia's. It is punchy and economical - acceleration is good and I am always getting 39 - 45 MPG, which for petrol in this size of car is very good. Forget claims of high 40's or 50 + MPG. Get a diesel if you want those numbers in economy. But the petrol offers more refinement, it is silent and smooth.
The car handles very well, and the gearshift is very smooth.
In short, you won't find a better all round car for the money, a great used purchase, providing you find a nice looked after car; full documented history is a must.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Not just TSi, the turbo fails on the diesels as well (1.6 and 2.0 TDi), must be a common fault across all VW/Audi/Skoda cars of this generation.
