2014 Skoda Roomster TSi SE 1.2 petrol

Summary:

OK

Faults:

Nothing much, but I have only had the car one year.

General Comments:

The Roomster is a rather odd looking car from Skoda. I like mine however for its practicality.

OK to drive. Fast enough and economical for a petrol automatic (40 mpg is possible when taking it slow). DSG box is quite fun to use.

Nice interior, very well laid out, plenty of space. Visibility is great, mostly glass all the way round the car.

Dull, boring and nothing special, but it is practical, reliable and I'd easily buy another, it does all I need.

2012 Skoda Roomster SE 1.2 TSi petrol

Summary:

Practical family vehicle!

Faults:

I have only had it one year and done one service. No major problems, looking through the car's history it has had the usual wear and tear parts replaced expected of mileage.

General Comments:

Bought this Roomster as a cheap family run about. Nothing special, but it has been good so far.

Very comfortable and spacious interior, well thought out design. Seats are comfortable, visibility is excellent. SE model has plenty of electrical features.

Odd looking but not an ugly car. My car is grey with alloy wheels, looks OK.

1.2 petrol is not fast but does over 40 mpg on average, generally a cheap to run car. Not bad to drive. Bit noisy but refinement levels are no worse than any other car in its class.

Difficult to say much more, just a modern user friendly, cheap to run vehicle that you should consider as a cheap used buy if all you want is family transport.

2013 Skoda Roomster SE 1.2 TSi petrol

Summary:

Poor quality

Faults:

Turbo, sensors, water ingress behind dashboard, etc.

It goes through brakes quickly and I don't know why because I drive slow.

Try to service and look after it on time, but it still has too many annoying issues.

General Comments:

Bought this Roomster as I needed a spacious practice vehicle for family use. It has been good for that purpose - I like the overall design and idea of the Roomster.

But everything else about the car is pretty bad. It is VERY slow and boring to drive. Not bad on fuel though (40 -45 mpg) but I would prefer a bigger engine next time.

Reliability has been patchy and pretty expensive to repair even using trusted independents.

An average at best car, wouldn't buy another.

2012 Skoda Roomster Scout 4x4 1.6 TDi

Summary:

Boring, but does all I need a car to do

Faults:

Usual wear and tear that comes with age and mileage (brakes, exhaust, suspension etc), plus the ABS light came on and it required a new sensor.

Bonnet catch a bit flimsy.

Engine management light illuminated but went away on its own. Was running a bit rough but cleared itself up (maybe dirt in diesel or filter?)

A few interior rattles, but nothing has broken.

The car gets serviced on time, bought used with lower mileage, generally is in good condition and I have continued to look after it.

General Comments:

The Roomster is another odd family car from Skoda, it is not bad, but not great either.

The Scout model is a bit basic, but has nice alloy wheels and electric windows. This is a "rare" 4x4 model. Good in winter. But not as good on fuel as a 2WD model, the 1.6 turbo diesel is doing around 45 - 50 mpg, I have a friend with an Octavia with the same engine and he gets a solid 60 mpg. Still it is not bad and I can live with it.

The car is nothing special to drive. Not fast. Handles OK, nothing fun but does what it needs to do.

Interior is quite spacious and comfortable for family use.

Really hard to say much more, just a fairly reliable and economical family car, but a bit too quirky for my liking, do not know if I'd buy another.

Rare indeed, I didn't think 4WD was available on this model...

I don't think it was, the reviewer must be mistaken.
