2002 Subaru Outback Limited 2.5

Summary:

Hard working and reliable, all weather load lugger

Faults:

Nothing; that's NOTHING until just over a year ago.

Now needs/has:

New exhaust.

Ball joints all round.

Leaking rear diff.

Power steering pump.

Rear and front link arms.

General Comments:

Purchased a 3 year old 02 Outback 2.5 Limited auto, with 27K miles on the clock and a FSSH. Now 123,000 miles. Many motorway miles, off-road, back roads etc. I drive the car hard most of the time. Can take my downhill bike and camping gear with ease.

I've always had my servicing done through a mate who is a Subaru specialist (cheaper than Subaru). I've had no (that's NO) issues until the last year or so. Amazing in snow, and even through standing water at high speed, goes straight and true. The car always drives as though it is very light and handles very well.

However, it now needs a new exhaust. Rear and front bushes, rear diff now leaking. Also, the light bulbs are not great, never touched the back ones, but all the front ones I replace once every few months.

It's very thirsty and high road tax.

The seats are OK. They're on a ratchet system, so you sit bolt upright or at an angle. Why did they do this!?

Also the arm rest is just a bit too low. However dual sunroof, heated seats climate control, CD, radio and tape player, electric windows and mirrors.

The interior quality is more 'hard wearing' than luxurious, although the leather interior helps hide this.

An amazing all rounder; I really don't want to let it go. I don't like the current Outback shape, I may go for the one which replaced mine, however the tax band is a step up again.

2011 Subaru Outback SE Nav Plus 2.5 petrol

Summary:

Fantastic Subaru quality, and great fun to drive

Faults:

Nothing so far, the car is beautiful to look at and be in, and drives so smoothly with the new Lineatronic CVT transmission.

The car is the top on the range model, loaded with boys toys.

Got a cracking deal from the Subaru dealer in Leeds - as always.

Only went in to have a puncture fixed and came out with a new car - fell in love with the Outback on sight.

General Comments:

Love the full leather and the rear camera, seems very comfortable and relaxed when driving.

Has a certain poise and presence on the road.

This is my third Subaru, the previous two were fault free for the whole time of ownership - I expect this one to be the same

Update on my previous missive.

Now done 8000 miles and totally fault-free, as expected.

I love the auto parking brake, which applies itself when standing still on a hill and releases when you touch the throttle. One slight gripe is that this auto hill holder, as it is called, has to be switched on manually every time you start the engine - why can't it be on by default and you switch it off when you don't want it?

Aside from that small gripe, it is a truly fantastic car with great dealer service.

2000 Subaru Outback LUX 2.5

Summary:

Superb all rounder with character

Faults:

Nothing at all, not even a bulb!

General Comments:

I swapped my Impreza Turbo for this fantastic car... I needed space and comfort for my wife, children and dog... I certainly got lots of space and comfort, this model comes with all the extras. The ride quality is superb and is commented on by many of my passengers. This car has a dual personality, the torquey nature of the 2.5 Boxer engine and the VDC vehicle dynamic control, makes driving fun and handling tight. A pleasure to drive. My children particularly like the slightly raised rear seats, so they can see through the front window. The automatic box is electronically controlled and very smooth. The engine is smooth up to three thousand RPM then growls up to the rev limit. The interior is grey leather and suede, the dash I fake wood, and so far there is no wear on the seat squabs and cushions. There are no rattles to be heard, and the build quality is superb.

2000 Subaru Outback 2.5 petrol

Summary:

An excellent purchase

Faults:

Replaced one number plate bulb.

General Comments:

The car has been totally reliable.

It should be noted that Subaru service intervals are frequent, but over the longer term will pay dividends in terms of reliability.

My previous car was a Legacy estate which also ran faultlessly.

Car lacks torque around 2500 revs. and needs kick down for swift overtaking.
