2005 Suzuki Grand Vitara DDiS 1.9 turb diesel
Summary:
Would never buy again from Suzuki
Faults:
Having bought a Vitara in November 2009, it has been in the the workshop for 3 weeks out of the 3 months we have owned it.
The DPF = diesel particulate filter has been replaced, and then the light was back on within 2 weeks, so if you are thinking of buying one, make sure you don't do small journeys. We were not told this when the vehicle was purchased, and after a long battle, we now find ourselves having to sell this Vitara as it is completely useless for our needs, and the Suzuki agent is no longer, and we have no come back, as Suzuki tell us it's nothing to do with them, even though it says on the front of the manual "Suzuki caring for customers".
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

Actually, we too bought a 1.9 DDIS Grand Vitara on an 07 plate in May of this year. It has since been in the garage for at least 6 weeks of that time, owing to problems with the DPF and the injection warning light, which causes a loss of power. The DPF has been replaced in August, and is currently in being replaced again, as it does not clear and regenerate itself properly on long journeys, nor when you drive it at "47 mph for 30 minutes" as the manual instructs. Suzuki technical are now involved. If it does not work this time, the dealership will be getting the keys back, and I shall be purchasing something else. All diesel cars have this DPF on, but causing far fewer problems than this pants Renault engine housed inside the Suzuki!!

Actually, if you buy any diesel engine car with a DPF-filter, you cannot just make short trips. From time to time it needs longer trips to "clean" itself, otherwise it stops working and needs to replace.
This goes for almost all cars with DPF.
