2015 Toyota Avensis Business Edition CVT 1.8 petrol

Summary:

Just a nice simple car

Faults:

Absolutely nothing.

General Comments:

Comfortable, spacious, reliable, the Avensis does what it is famous for.

I have had this car two years with no major issues. It's a good car to drive and easy to own.

2015 Business Edition has all modern features and still feels fresh even in 2024.

1.8 petrol engine with automatic transmission provides a decent balance of power and economy.

Now here is my only gripe with this car - it is ugly. That front grille update design is horrid. I much preferred the 2010 - 2013 Avensis design, I believe it was a slightly updated version. But this 2015 car... my God what have they done! Still, it looks OK from the back and sides so I can live with it. I came from driving a Vauxhall Insignia, which is a very nice looking car. Heck even the Ford Mondeo of the same generation is better looking than this!

So if you can live with the odd looks, the Avensis is otherwise one of the best cars in its class.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Don't Know

2015 Toyota Avensis D-4D Excel 2.0 turbo diesel

Summary:

An excellent vehicle I want to keep a long time

Faults:

I have had to do nothing except servicing, no faults to deal with.

General Comments:

Despite many saying this is a dull car, I rather like driving my Avensis. Nothing special, that is for sure, but it makes an excellent all round modern car that never lets you down.

Excel model has plenty of equipment and heated leather seats, the interior of this car is a very nice place to be. Dash looks very smart and stylish. Cabin is spacious and quiet on the move; even at motorway speeds the car has less noise than most cars I have driven before.

2.0 turbo diesel can move quick enough and I have averaged around 55 mpg. The car drives very nicely though it is no sports car, hard cornering will result in typical front wheel drive under-steer.

Exterior of my car is white and looks the part with standard alloy wheels and rear window tints. Updated 2015 model is an improvement on the original 2009 design with the odd looking grille. To be honest it is still a bit ugly at the front, the car will never stand out from the crowd. Styling is just odd, though I do like the look of the car from the sides and the back.

A very nice modern car that is cheap to run and easy to live with, I cannot find any negative things to say about the Avensis. As everyone always says about Toyota - buy a looked after one and you have bought reliability.

You got a good car, we have 4 Toyota Avensis working our local private hire taxi service and they are easily the most reliable out of all other cars there (Ford Mondeo, Vauxhall Insignia, etc). Not the best car to look at, but you can't put a price on reliability.

The Avensis is easily the best in its class for reliability. I can comment as I have driven them all;

Toyota Avensis = Reliability

Vauxhall Insignia = Value, looks

Ford Mondeo = The best to drive

As for the Hyundai i40 and Kia Optima, those are jack of all trades offering better build than those companies have given in recent years. But not significantly better than any rivals.

In all honesty though... if you have the extra money, the Audi A4 or BMW 3 series is better than all the above :)
